Transmission Lineman – Transmission Line Construction
Location:
HQ at 205 Southfield Parkway, Forest Park, GA. Assignments are for Transmission Construction crews with state-wide coverage.

The Line Construction Transmission Lineman role is part of a construction crew responsible for building and repairing high-voltage transmission lines. This role is an integral part of state-wide planned capital projects and support during storm restorations. Work involves climbing structures, operating machinery, and performing tasks in various weather conditions. Safety, teamwork, and technical expertise are essential skills for this role.
This position is a physically demanding position, with a work schedule of four, ten-hour days and will mostly require overnight and out-of-town stays during the week near the construction site. Depending on work location, you could be away from home for as many as 200 nights per year (cumulative, not consecutive nights).
Key Responsibilities
- Safely build and repair transmission lines and equipment.
- Review work orders, determine materials, and load equipment.
- Assemble and install materials using hand tools; work aerially from ladders, lift buckets, and climbing tools.
- Climb transmission poles and structures (up to 200 feet).
- Communicate effectively with team members.
- Train, develop, and mentor fellow team members.
- Maintain regular attendance and comply with safety procedures.
Requirements
- It is Required that candidates have prior experience in the following:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 4 years or more of certified Journeyman Lineman experience
- Must demonstrate skills, knowledge, and ability by successfully completing the pre-employment Transmission Journeyman Lineman Assessment
- Valid drivers' license with Class A CDL
- Transmission Line Construction equipment and installation work to include installing, maintaining, and retiring transmission lines on voltages from 46kV to 500kV.
- Construction machinery such as skid steers, excavators, back hoes, cranes or heavy load rigging and lifting.
- Structure Climbing (up to 200 feet).
- Working in an overhead position while on the structure.
- Pulling and splicing wires.
- Work in adverse conditions outdoors - day and night hours.
- Operate Electrical system - Transmission, Substation and Distribution Switching
- Basic understanding of electrical Distribution Systems
- It is Preferred for candidates to have experience in the following:
- Transmission Lineman on voltages from 46kV TO 500kV
- Previous experience working on the Georgia Power system highly preferred.
- Distribution Lineman experience
- Energized transmission work experience

Pay
- This is a position covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Georgia Power Company and IBEW Local 84. Union membership is optional. Current starting pay is $8920 per month / $51.46 per hour and is not negotiable.
- Per Diem will be paid at the current rate of $178 per day. To qualify for this per diem option, each employee must substantiate that overnight lodging expenses were incurred at or near the temporary headquarters and that a minimum of 50 road miles from home to the temporary job site was traveled.
