Essential Functions- Drive tractor‑trailer (Flatbed) to deliver precast concrete to job sites safely and efficiently using learned skills and knowledge.
- Follow DOT and TH&E safety regulations, policies, and procedures at all times.
- Wear required personal protective equipment while on duty.
- Receive daily instructions and load assignments from the local dispatcher. Execute load assignments in compliance with all Federal, State and local DOT rules, regulations, curfew restrictions and permit constraints.
- If a driver believes a load is non‑compliant, raise the issue with the local dispatcher promptly. Present non‑compliance conditions courteously for resolution, ensuring no DOT rules are violated.
- Ensure tractors and trailers are in good working condition by performing pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
- Complete all required paperwork daily, including trip summary, driver's logs, vehicle inspection reports, bills of lading, wait/work time sheets and other forms as required.
- Report maintenance problems to the maintenance department using required forms and inform dispatch of the same.
- Verify proper load assignment by checking pertinent information on the bill of lading (trailer number, job number, piece marks).
- Use learned skills and knowledge to secure loads as specified by DOT rules and TH&E policies and procedures.
- Use supplied chains, ratchet binders, straps (when specified) and corner guards to secure the load and protect the product from damage. Straps may not be used on finished goods.
- Verify no loose material or dunnage is unsecured while in transit.
- Remain knowledgeable of DOT rules and regulations by staying up to date on the driver's handbook.
- Verify all required documents for the operation of the truck (registration, insurance certificate, IFTA card, annual inspection and hauling permits) are current and up to date.
- Report any delays or downtime to dispatch.
- Maintain contact with jobsite supervision to ensure proper placement of trailers for off‑loading.
- Obtain customer signature for proof of delivery and/or for wait/work time sheets when required.
- Responsible for keeping the tractor clean and presentable.
- Commercial Driver's License Class
A. - Acceptable driving record (no prior DUI/DWI, no fatality crash, no historical pattern of speeding).
- Ability to pass company/DOT physical.
- Ability to pass company/DOT drug and alcohol test.
- Ability to work in various types of weather.
- Ability to respond with remaining hours of service to the local dispatcher's preliminary order for the next day's scheduled deliveries.
- Ability to confirm the next day's finalized dispatch order prior to going off duty in the current day.
- Ability to work all available hours of service per Federal Regulations. This may include weekends and holidays provided no previously approved vacation time conflicts with the requested workdays.
- 25 years of age, or 23 years of age with 2 years' experience hauling similar concrete products.
- Ability to lift/carry grade 70 5/16" chains that are 25' long.
- Ability to lift/carry and use ratchet binders.
- Ability to lift/carry and use 2" or 3" straps.
- Ability to push/pull or drag chains, binders or straps overloads up to 13'6" in height.
- Ability to lift/carry/push/pull/drag tarp and secure it properly.
- Ability to climb ladder/tractor/trailer/load up to 13'6" in height to secure load.
