The Senior Manufacturing Engineer supports the Maintenance department and manufacturing operations by providing advanced production and equipment support to ensure optimal equipment performance, process stability, and accurate technical documentation. This role serves as a senior local engineering resource, working closely with Maintenance, Production, Quality, and Controls/Automation teams to resolve complex equipment and process issues, improve line reliability, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
The Senior Maintenance Manufacturing Engineer provides technical leadership, mentors junior engineers and technicians, and supports equipment commissioning, upgrades, and optimization activities.
- Provide senior-level engineering support for manufacturing equipment and production processes, including advanced data analysis, test station support, and complex process troubleshooting.
- Serve as a technical escalation point for maintenance technicians and engineers by providing expert-level guidance during equipment- and process-related issues.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers, technicians, and cross‑functional team members on equipment performance, troubleshooting methods, and best engineering practices.
- Lead cross‑functional efforts to identify root causes, implement sustainable corrective actions, and improve equipment uptime, reliability, and process capability.
- Own and oversee production documentation, including drawings, prints, process sheets, work instructions, and revision‑controlled files; ensure accuracy, compliance, and effective distribution.
- Lead preventive maintenance (PM) strategy development by defining critical inspection points, process checks, and mechanical/equipment tolerances required for long‑term stability.
- Lead and support equipment commissioning, station verification, and process validation activities during new line startups, upgrades, and recipe or process changes.
- Analyze complex process and equipment failures, including fixture issues, misalignment, sensor interactions, end‑of‑line (EOL) test failures, cycle inconsistencies, and equipment‑induced defects.
- Coordinate closely with Controls and Automation Engineers to correlate process failures with PLC logic, sensors, drives, and overall machine behavior.
- Oversee creation, cleanup, and maintenance of BOM data, equipment records, and technical metadata within the EAM system.
- Lead structured root‑cause investigations using tools such as 5‑Why, Ishikawa, BDA, and failure mode analysis, and ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained.
- Identify, recommend, and implement engineering improvements including fixture redesigns, tooling enhancements, alignment corrections, guarding modifications, and procedural updates.
- Maintain high standards of documentation control and engineering discipline, ensuring all files and process documents are current, accurate, and accessible.
- Lead or significantly contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on throughput, defect reduction, cycle‑time improvement, and station repeatability.
- Participate in and support safety reviews, process hazard assessments, and LOTO validation activities as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Systems Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum of 8 years working as a Manufacturing Engineer supporting equipment performance in a production environment.
- Demonstrated experience supporting Siemens‑integrated equipment, 6‑axis robotics, and vision control systems.
