Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a focus on fast, friendly Customer Service.
  • Assist customers by making product suggestions.
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in‑store intercom announcements, and one‑on‑one customer interaction.
  • Answer incoming calls appropriately; resolve customer complaints and report issues to the Store Director when needed.
  • Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director (see Store Director job description).
  • Plan GM daily operations and monitor production processes according to company procedures and profitability goals.
  • Build GM/HBC displays, rotate stock, and remove outdated or spoiled product. Ensure overall cleanliness of the work area and department.
  • Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays.
  • Follow and maintain all department standards and requirements.
  • Monitor employee productivity and evaluate overall performance.
  • Schedule employees to maintain adequate coverage and service levels.
  • Possess specific knowledge of duties performed by all department employees, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees.
  • Train employees on store policies, sales procedures, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Identify and train employees who show strong potential for advancement.
  • Maintain working knowledge of company policies as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Ensure proper code dating for all products in the department.
  • Initiate personnel actions such as interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary steps.
  • Prepare sales and inventory reports; conduct physical inventory every 6 months.
  • Control inventory to ensure proper product quantity, quality, and freshness; maintain inventory levels per division directives. Stock and rotate product.
  • Order general merchandise items and maintain inventory levels in line with Division guidelines.
  • Supervise reclamation processing and maintain organized, in‑stock conditions in the backroom and all Drug Department areas.
  • Control shrink and expenses.
  • Use a variety of equipment including pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, and safety cutters.
  • Perform receiving duties such as breaking down loads, verifying invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product. Follow temperature, storage, and packaging requirements.
  • Process administrative paperwork and maintain accurate departmental records.
  • Accurately complete and monitor daily log sheets, sales and labor reports, and other required documentation.
  • Ensure correct temperature levels for all products. Follow retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, company policies, and code‑date standards.
  • Follow all workplace safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintain safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards for the work area, cooler, equipment, and display areas.
  • Implement emergency procedures in the event of equipment or computer software malfunctions.
  • Use computer software and electronic ordering devices to order product.
  • Participate in sales meetings; communicate department performance, sales goals, and opportunities to employees.
  • Ensure compliance with company grooming standards and dress code.
  • Perform all duties safely, accurately, honestly, and with integrity.
  • Perform additional duties as needed.
Skills and

Physical Requirements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; maintain a professional demeanor with customers and coworkers.
  • Solid understanding of company practices and GM/HBC department policies and procedures.
  • Frequently lift and maneuver objects weighing up to approximately 50 lbs; bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive arm movements.
  • Push and pull fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks.
  • Require manual dexterity and good eye‑hand coordination.
  • Require mental alertness to ensure accurate and safe task completion.
  • Require basic math skills and knowledge of weights and measures.
  • Must have knowledge of product variety, standards, perishability, handling requirements, sanitation, and labeling.
  • Operate telephones, pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, scissors, and safety cutters.
  • Use cleaning supplies, equipment, and computer software for ordering.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays; consistent attendance is essential.
  • Exposure to potential hazards associated with equipment and work aids.
Work Environment
  • Work primarily in a temperature‑controlled environment with frequent exposure to refrigerated conditions around 35°F.
  • Occasional travel, including overnight travel, may be required.
