Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems including lighting, outlets, panels, switches, transformers, and emergency power systems, including high and low voltage systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance, testing, and documentation for generators, transfer switches, and essential electrical branches.
- Diagnose electrical failures and complete corrective repairs in compliance with NEC, NFPA, and hospital standards.
- Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Perform general facilities maintenance including:
- Minor carpentry and door/lock hardware repairs
- Ceiling tile replacement and wall protection installation
- Minor plumbing repairs (leaks, fixtures, drains) within scope of training
- Assist with HVAC support tasks such as filter changes, thermostat checks, equipment monitoring, and reporting irregularities
- Conduct routine building inspections and report deficiencies
- Respond to routine, urgent, and after-hours work orders as assigned
- Follow OSHA, NEC, NFPA, CMS, and hospital safety policies
- Comply with Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) requirements for all work activities
- Use proper PPE and follow lockout/tagout procedures
- Secure work areas to protect patients, staff, and visitors
- Participate in Environment of Care (EOC), Life Safety, and emergency preparedness rounds
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid state electrician license (Journeyman, per state requirements)
- Minimum of 3 years of commercial, institutional, or healthcare electrical experience
- Demonstrated experience performing general facilities maintenance technician duties
- Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and time-management skills
- Hospital or healthcare facilities experience
- Familiarity with Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, NEC, and Life Safety Code standards
- Experience with emergency power supply systems (EPSS)
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 75 pounds
- Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and working overhead
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights
- Exposure to electrical hazards, dust, noise, and cleaning chemicals
- Hospital patient care and non-patient care areas
- Indoor and outdoor environments
- On-call, evenings, weekends, and emergency response may be required
