Position: Materials Engineer (6 Month Register).

Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive documents required to advance acquisition of strategic and critical materials mitigation products.
  • Develop services, including Statements of Work (SOW), Performance Work Statements (PWS), Statements of Objectives (SOO), and Independent Government Cost Estimates (IGCE).
  • Provide technical support to acquisition staff during solicitation, proposal, evaluation, negotiation, and post‑award proceedings.
  • Develop guidelines evaluating the parameters of products and services required to support acquisition, operations, and sales activities.
  • Anticipate requirements and provide supporting technical information (specifications, standards, Material Safety Data Sheets) for long‑range and ad hoc commodity testing projects.
  • Assist with evaluation of the technical merits of customer quality complaints and provide recommendations for solutions.
  • Serve as Program Manager on material projects and processes for acquisition, disposal, and upgrade.
  • Collaborate with other Directorates, Government agencies, and industries.

Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in professional engineering. Acceptable programs are accredited by ABET as a professional engineering curriculum or include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first‑year physics and chemistry) in at least five of the following seven areas: statics, dynamics; strength of materials; fluid mechanics, hydraulics; thermodynamics; electrical fields and circuits; nature and properties of materials; or an equivalent area of fundamental engineering science or physics.
  • Professional registration or licensure: current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE). Registration by means other than a written test is limited to positions closely related to the specialty field of registration.
  • Written test: successful passage of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other required written test.
  • Specified academic courses: completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, including the courses specified above.
  • Related curriculum: completion of a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate scientific field (e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology) with at least one year of professional engineering experience under supervision.
Specialized Experience
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑12 level or comparable, directly related to the position.
  • Experience includes: performing complete and thorough analysis of engineering factors impacting performance and design of manufactured items; professional‑level knowledge of manufacturing practices and processes; strong proficiency and knowledge of quality assurance practices and policies.
Additional Experience

Experience may include paid, unpaid, and volunteer roles (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps). Volunteer work is credited for qualifying experience.

Additional Requirements

Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization and deemed equivalent to an accredited U.S. program. Graduate education counts as one academic year per 18 semester hours.
