Principal Infrared Sensor Technology Subject Matter Expert
CACI is seeking a Principal Infrared Sensor Technology Subject Matter Expert to provide senior-level scientific, engineering, and technical advisory support to a government customer. The successful candidate will support multiple advanced sensor, research and development, acquisition, and technology-integration projects involving infrared detection, imaging, focal plane arrays, and related electro-optical technologies.
The Principal Subject Matter Expert will serve as a trusted technical advisor to government program leaders, project managers, engineers, scientists, and acquisition professionals. Evaluate emerging technologies, assess technical approaches and contractor performance, identify technology risks and opportunities, and recommend strategies for advancing sensor technologies from research and development through testing, manufacturing, integration, and operational deployment. This position requires an internationally or nationally recognized expert who can operate independently on highly complex technical matters, provide authoritative recommendations, and communicate effectively with senior government, industry, academic, and research-organization stakeholders.
Responsibilities include:
- Serve as a principal technical authority and subject matter expert for infrared sensors, focal plane arrays, detector materials, imaging technologies, and related electro-optical systems.
- Provide independent technical assessments and recommendations to government program managers, acquisition officials, scientists, engineers, and senior leaders.
- Support the planning, execution, and evaluation of advanced research, development, prototyping, manufacturing, integration, test, and technology-transition activities.
- Review technical proposals, statements of work, research plans, test plans, program documentation, technical reports, and contractor deliverables.
- Advise the customer on domestic and international infrared sensor capabilities, technology trends, supply-chain considerations, manufacturing capacity, and relevant industry developments.
- Support technology maturity assessments and recommend actions necessary to transition promising technologies from laboratory research into prototypes, production environments, or operational systems.
- Identify technical risks, capability gaps, dependencies, and barriers to technology maturation and recommend practical mitigation strategies.
- Participate in technical interchange meetings, design reviews, program reviews, source-selection activities, industry engagements, conferences, and working groups.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to multidisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, analysts, and project personnel.
- Apply broad scientific and engineering judgment to resolve novel, complex, or ambiguous technical problems for which established solutions may not exist.
- Maintain awareness of emerging infrared, electro-optical, photonic, semiconductor and advanced-material technologies that may affect customer missions or future system capabilities.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Doctorate in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Optical Engineering, or a closely related scientific or engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 20 years of progressively responsible experience in infrared sensors, focal plane arrays, electro-optical technologies, semiconductor devices, photonics, or a closely related technical field.
- Demonstrated expertise in the development and application of cooled infrared detectors, focal plane arrays, or infrared imaging systems.
- Extensive experience supporting advanced research and development, technology maturation, systems engineering, acquisition, or technical program execution.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate highly complex scientific and engineering concepts and provide authoritative technical recommendations.
Desired:
- Recognition as a Fellow or senior member of a relevant scientific or engineer.
