Position: Registered Nurse Labor Delivery Recovery Postpardum (Nights) PRN

Job Summary

The Labor Delivery Recovery Postpartum (LDRP) Registered Nurse provides comprehensive, patient-centered care for women and newborns in labor, delivery, and postpartum settings, including monitoring, interventions, and education. This role requires flexibility to work across multiple military medical facilities while delivering high-quality clinical support while adhering to hospital policies and maintaining accurate medical records. This position is at AAMMC in Fort Belvoir, VA.

Required Qualifications
  • Education: Associates, or bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university. (ACEN or CCNE)
  • Work Experience: One year Labor Delivery Recovery Postpartum or Labor & Delivery experience, with no more than 12 months since last work assignment.
  • License: Current unrestricted RN license in one of the 50 US States and/or territories.
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider-Advanced (NRP), preferred
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform monitoring of triage patients, including continuous fetal monitoring, spontaneous rupture of membrane check, labor check, prolonged monitoring, rule out pre-term labor, decreased fetal movement, and pre‑eclampsia.
  • Perform monitoring of patients, including continuous fetal monitoring, vital signs, labor checks, and cervical examinations.
  • Provide intravenous management (fluids, Pitocin, MgSO4, antibiotics, blood products) and provide pain management. Monitor patient status on continuous laboring epidurals, intravenous narcotics, and provide emotional support.
  • Assist provider with inductions (cervical ripening, artificial rupture of membranes, Pitocin).
  • Assist provider with vaginal delivery procedures (pushing, delivery, recovery). Assist provider with operative vaginal delivery procedures (vacuum, forceps).
  • Perform pre‑op for Cesarean‑sections (C‑section) (shave‑prep, Foley catheter, intravenous bolus, and emotional support).
  • Perform procedures for transition of normal newborn (bath, shots, assessment, and breastfeeding assistance).
  • Provide stabilization for transport of high‑risk patients (MgSO4, dexamethasone, antibiotics, and emotional support).
  • Provide patient and family teaching.
  • Support C‑section deliveries as circulating nurse in the operating room and provide breastfeeding support and education.
  • Shall be responsible for and provide family and patient centered nursing care to infant and women of childbearing age.
  • Shall maintain accurate and current notes in the electronic medical records of all patients.
Work Environment & Schedule

Night shift: 6:45 pm to 7:15 am coverage, minimum of 4 shifts per month to include weekends and holiday rotation. This position is at Fort Belvoir, VA.

Compensation

$79.00 per hour plus H&W.

Physical requirements

Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 12‑hour shifts), frequently lift and reposition patients (up to 50 lbs with assistance as needed), and perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling equipment. Requires sufficient strength, stamina, manual dexterity, and sensory ability (vision and hearing) to provide patient care, respond to emergencies, and work effectively in a fast‑paced Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum environment.
