Job Summary

Provides short‑term coverage as an Assignment Ready Counselor (ARC) for military installations during surge, on‑demand, and summer periods. Delivers Adult and Child & Youth Behavioral (CYB) counseling, assessments, brief counseling, training, consultations, and referrals to service members, families, and school personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide non‑medical, short‑term, solution‑focused counseling to adults, children, and youth.
  • Conduct assessments, brief counseling, action planning, referrals, and follow‑up as needed.
  • Offer training and health‑and‑wellness presentations; participate in health fairs and base activities.
  • Maintain accurate counselor activity data via phone or web application.
  • Consult with installation, branch POCs, and community resources to address behavioral health needs.
  • Work independently with minimal instruction; respond promptly to emergent situations across base or school settings.
  • Serve as an accessible presence for service members, families, students, parents, and staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of service member and family data.
  • Participate in in‑services, quality improvement, supervision, and other contract activities.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a mental‑health or social‑work related field from an accredited graduate program.
  • Current independent licensure: LICSW / LCSW‑R / LICSW‑CP, LPC, LMHC, or LMFT (or equivalent). Must meet state or customer requirements.
  • US citizenship and fluency in English.
  • Advanced knowledge of brief therapy and solution‑focused counseling methods.
  • Ability to work full‑time, often on short notice, with assignments ranging from weekend to two weeks.
  • Strong communication and rapport‑building skills with military personnel, spouses, children, and school personnel.
  • Prior military service or familiarity with military culture is desired.
  • For CYB roles: meet Magellan MFLC CYB criteria, experience with children and youth, and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology.
  • Capability to traverse military base conditions, including outdoor weather and rugged terrain.
  • Current immunizations required for specific assignments; ability to provide proof.
  • Valid driver’s license (in‑state).
Work Conditions

Counselors may be assigned to DoDEA schools, community schools, youth programs, summer camps, or other on‑demand or surge sites. Assignments may require travel within and outside the installation, and work in indoor and outdoor settings.
