Short-Term Non-Continuing Computer Support Technician – Mendocino‑Lake Community College District, Coast Center, Fort Bragg.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to computer‑related problems, determine whether hardware, software, programming or systems issues are involved, and redirect problems when necessary.
  • Install and configure microcomputers, peripherals, and system software; set up and load software packages for students, faculty and staff.
  • Coordinate instructional computer lab activities, maintain safety and security procedures, and assist instruction staff with project access.
  • Provide telephone and on‑site support for students, faculty, departments and district personnel, including troubleshooting network printer issues and local network problems.
  • Train users in equipment care and software usage; offer instruction on new software applications and system upgrades.
  • Evaluate, test and recommend hardware and software solutions that meet district needs; research products and vendors and negotiate pricing for new equipment and repairs.
  • Maintain inventory of hardware and software, oversee purchase orders, and order supplies from vendors.
  • Assist with network cabling, local‑area network and server administration, TCP/IP, and internet technologies as required.
  • Provide support for telecommunications, satellite and teleconferencing equipment.
  • Perform minor desktop hardware repairs for PC and Macintosh equipment outside vendor coverage agreements.
  • Assist with the repair of PC and Macintosh equipment covered by third‑party vendor agreements.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Salary & Benefits

Hourly wage: $28.41 per hour; 20 hours per week;
Short‑Term Non‑Continuing (STNC) for up to 180 days.

Benefits:
Bronze level benefit plan at the employee’s cost; 40 hours of sick leave per fiscal year; possible eligibility for CalPERS retirement contingent on hours worked.

Working Conditions

Office and computer room environment with computer‑related noise. Physical demands include sitting, standing, reaching, bending, walking and lifting up to 70 lbs.

Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent (AA preferred).

Experience:

Computer support experience required.

Knowledge
  • Computer and peripheral operation, installation and maintenance.
  • Administration of Windows servers.
  • TCP/IP LAN/WAN environments and internet technologies.
  • Network operating systems and security procedures.
  • Instructional computer lab operational and security protocols.
  • Teleconferencing and multimedia equipment.
  • Software licensing and record‑keeping.
  • Basic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Macintosh and PC desktop operating systems.
  • General technical documentation and manual usage.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Electrical safety procedures.
Abilities
  • Deliver technical customer support.
  • Identify, troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of technical problems.
  • Support and train end‑users in software applications.
  • Read and apply complex technical information.
  • Master new computer technology.
  • Operate computers and peripherals accurately and efficiently.

Physical Ability

Sitting, standing, reaching, bending, walking and lifting up to 70 lbs.

Conditions of Employment
  • Provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Undergo Live Scan/DOJ and FBI background check and TB test.
  • Complete required district trainings within 6 months of employment (e.g., Sexual Harassment Prevention).
