Special Operation Target Interdiction Course Instructor

Instructor of SOTIC responsible for development and conduct of resident training of Special Operations Forces personnel in high risk, high stress, long-range marksmanship of targets in close proximity to friendly personnel and related sniper skills.

Participate in live-fire training exercises and platform classroom training and planning exercises to include technical instruction, coaching, firing, training support duties and range operations.

Serve as primary instructor of the SOTIC INSTRUCTOR QUALIFICATION TRAINING PROGRAM who is responsible for development and training of Special Operation Forces unit instructors.

Conduct the role of Training Developer of new and current course material of the Special Operations Target Interdiction Course (SOTIC) Program of Instruction.

Perform as the focal point for Research and Development of new sniper initiatives and equipment fielding as related to sniper operations.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.

Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.

This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 15% of the time.

Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

Required to work days and nights, in and outdoors, and may be exposed to inclement weather.

May be required to work varying hours to include weekends and holidays.

Specialized

Experience:

One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes Serving as a Special Operation Target Interdiction Course (SOTIC) instructor responsible for development and conduct of training for Special Operations Forces personnel. Researching and developing new initiatives and equipment fielding as related to sniper operations.

Instructing courses that cover subject matter areas comparable to the upper division undergraduate level. Developing their assigned courses and determining the need for and initiate revisions in course content. The OPM Qualification Standard provides the following examples:

- Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s).

- Supervising or administering a training program.

- Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results.

- Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
