Senior Software Developer – Hybrid at Iron EagleX (IEX), a subsidiary of General Dynamics Information Technology, located in Fort Liberty, NC.
OverviewJoin the largest government agency to advance the Department of War’s mission. This role supports a major application rewrite for a mission‑critical system, requiring proficiency in modern Java development, Spring Framework, Kubernetes, and Open Search.
Job DescriptionThe position covers the full software development lifecycle: design, development, deployment, and optimization of critical applications. Working in a hybrid environment, the developer will spend 3 days on site in Fayetteville and 2 days remote.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise‑grade applications using Python, Java, and the Spring Framework.
- Leverage Open Search to implement efficient search, indexing, and data retrieval capabilities.
- Deploy, orchestrate, and manage containerized applications using Kubernetes.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to gather requirements, architect solutions, and deliver clean, maintainable code.
- Participate in major application rewrites, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and user‑friendly.
- Optimize and enhance existing codebases and workflows.
- Contribute to the development of API‑driven microservices architecture.
- Document software designs, development processes, and system functionality.
- Apply best practices in Dev Sec Ops , CI/CD pipelines, and cloud development.
- Proactively identify, communicate, and resolve technical issues to ensure high availability and performance.
- Support application testing, debugging, and deployment processes.
- 3+ years of software development experience, with strong proficiency in Python, Java, and the Spring Framework.
- Experience with Elasticsearch and/or Open Search for indexing and search functionalities.
- Hands‑on experience with container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
- Proven ability to develop, deploy, and maintain enterprise applications in hybrid cloud environments.
- Familiarity with modern development practices, including CI/CD, version control (Git), and Agile methodologies.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills, with a "figure‑it‑out" mindset.
- Ability to work collaboratively in fast‑paced, dynamic team environments.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- U.S. Citizenship is required; U.S. Government contract requirements mandate active TS/SCI clearance.
- Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Knowledge of additional programming languages such as Python.
- Familiarity with message queueing systems like Kafka.
- Understanding of modern Dev Sec Ops principles.
- Experience with full‑stack development, including frontend frameworks.
- Strong documentation and knowledge‑management skills.
- BS degree in Computer Science or a related field (preferred).
- 5+ years of related experience.
- Experience with CI/CD, Java Software Development, Open Search Software, and Python Software Development.
- No certifications required.
USA – NC Fort Bragg (Fort Liberty). Hybrid: 3 days on site in Fayetteville, NC and 2 days remote.
