Responsibilities

Provide the full breadth of MFLC consultation and counseling services to the command structure and military service members and their families as an embedded counselor assigned to a dedicated military unit.

  • Deliver non‑medical, short‑term, walk‑around counseling directly to eligible service members and family members.
  • Conduct assessments, brief counseling, action planning, referrals, and follow‑up as indicated.
  • Deliver training and health and wellness presentations and activities as requested or directed.
  • Enter counselor activity data daily via smartphone or web application to ensure accurate reporting while maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Cultivate and maintain direct relationships with commanders and personnel within the assigned military unit.
  • Develop effective working relationships with the installation point of contact (POC), command, and POC to ensure services are accessible and culturally responsive.
  • Provide MFLC response to critical incidents, surge, and special requests as directed by the POC and approved by the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) program manager.
  • Flex schedule to respond to urgent requests as needed or at the request of the Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
  • Manage duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol; staff cases with Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
  • Communicate with Regional Supervisors and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information on trends and issues.
  • Participate in regular in‑services, training, quality improvement committees, and other contract activities as assigned.
  • Engage in initiatives, studies, and pilot programs directed by the customer and/or Magellan, including pilot program certification, training, documentation, and technology integration.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited graduate program in a mental health‑related field.
  • Valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a State, District of Columbia, U.S. Territory, or Commonwealth that authorizes independent practice.
  • Minimum two years of post‑licensure clinical experience.
  • Intermediate‑level competencies in technology and software (Microsoft Suite, Internet navigation, smartphone/tablet and application navigation, video‑conferencing platforms).
  • Ability to engage and communicate with military members and children, respond quickly to emergent situations, and traverse various physical environments on a military installation.
  • Ability to travel to locations outside the military installation as required and adhere to site‑specific requirements (immunizations, etc.).
  • U.S. citizenship and fluent English language proficiency.
  • Understanding, sensitivity, and empathy for service members and their families; ability to develop trusting, helping relationships.
  • Capability to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Pass national security and background checks:
    National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI), Installation Records Check (IRC), Criminal History Background Check, and FBI Fingerprints Check; clearance may be required (Secret level).
  • Vehicle operator’s license (U.S. state vehicle operator’s license, or U.S. military vehicle operator’s permit for commercial sedans and similar vehicles for temporary duty locations if required).
Salary

Salary Minimum: $59,922;
Salary Maximum: $100,280. Actual pay will be adjusted based on individual skills, experience, education, and other job‑related factors permitted by law. The position may be eligible for short‑term incentives and a comprehensive benefits package.
