Responsibilities
- Serve as team leader ensuring staff provides appropriate developmental care and instruction for children and youth ages 6 weeks to 18 years in Child and Youth Services (CYS) programs.
- Implement a developmentally appropriate program that promotes social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.
- Instruct team members in specific tasks and job techniques; provide written instructions, reference materials, and supplies.
- Develop, plan, and implement age‑appropriate educational lesson plans, schedules, and activities based on observed needs and interests of individual children and youth.
- Ensure staff follows health and safety standards for diapering, toileting, hand washing, cleaning/sanitizing/disinfecting surfaces and materials, food service, safe sleep practices, and caring for ill children and youth.
- Must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Require direct deposit and Social Security Card at time of appointment.
- Complete E‑Verify check.
- Possess or obtain immunization against communicable diseases (including influenza vaccine); pass pre‑employment physical.
- Background check and criminal history screening per Section 231 of the Crime Control Act and Department of Defense Instruction 1402.05.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
- Mobility necessary to ensure safety of children and youth.
- Work schedule may include evenings, weekends, holidays; may be required to work indoors and outdoors and occasionally field trips.
- Minimum 18 months experience working in group programs with children/youth and demonstrated knowledge of child/youth development. Completion of DoW standardized training course, Child Development Associate (CDA), or Military School‑Age (MSA) credential is preferred.
- OR Minimum 12 months experience with relevant education:
Associate’s degree or 60 semester hours in early childhood, elementary, secondary education, child and youth development, special education, human development, youth program administration, recreation, physical education, or related behavioral sciences. Bachelor’s degree or higher also acceptable.
