Responsibilities
- Using concepts and principles of professional engineering and architecture, reviews all designs, drawings, procurement packages, estimates, specifications, and engineering feasibility assessments for projects.
- Supervises the review of all projects to be constructed within the confines of a military installation.
- Coordinates and monitors project management, design, and other work of the branch.
- Acts as authorized representative of the Contracting Officer for Architect‑Engineer (A‑E) Services contracts for several types of engineering services, such as reports, studies, designs (Title I Services) and contract inspection (Title II Services).
- Supervises the activities of employees in professional and non‑professional series assigned to the Facilities Branch.
- Assigns and reviews work of subordinates, sets priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work.
- Trains or directs training of new employees and instructs currently assigned employees on new techniques, changes in procedures, etc.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment; a background investigation and credit check are required.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one‑year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG); a one‑year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- Pre‑employment submission of a Financial Disclosure Statement, OGE‑450, Executive Branch Personnel Confidential Financial Disclosure Report upon entering the position and annually, in accordance with DoD Directive 5500‑7‑R.
- This position requires a temporary duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5 % of the time.
Basic Requirement for Supervisory General Engineer
A. Degree:
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering. The program must: (1) lead to a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); OR (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: statics, dynamics;
strength of materials (stress‑strain relationships); fluid mechanics, hydraulics; thermodynamics; electrical fields and circuits; nature and properties of materials; and g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
B. Combination of
Education and Experience:
College‑level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnishes a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering and a good understanding of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. Adequacy must be demonstrated by one of the following:
- Professional registration or licensure – Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
- Written test – Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration.
- Specified academic courses – Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences that included the courses specified in A above.
- Related curriculum – Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate scientific field (engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology) may be accepted in lieu of an engineering degree, provided the applicant has at least one…
