Architect, Environmental & Urban Planning

Position: Architect.

• This position is an Architect in the Engineering Division for work relating to the design and construction of buildings and other facilities at Fort Carson.
• The incumbent provides advisory and consultant services both in-house and outside the installation on such matters as codes and regulations relating to buildings and other facilities of different types and purposes.
• Performs as a professional architect in planning and designing substantial new construction, renovation and improvement projects on real property facilities.
• Serves as a consulting architect on all design aspects of assigned projects.
• Coordinates project with engineers in other disciplines.
• As project leader, the position is responsible for coordinating the various aspects of project buildings with electrical, mechanical and civil engineers to ensure all the technical areas are covered, and design intentions are met.

Requirements Conditions of employment

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

• Degree:
  Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in architecture or in a related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.
