Job Summary

The Accountant II or Accountant III coordinates and maintains Platte River's transactional accounting functions, including capital accounting, fuel accounting, billing, accounts receivable, and cash management. The position performs accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, compliance, and audit-related responsibilities; analyzes and manages complex financial data; and supports departments across the organization in achieving financial and operational objectives.

Platte River is seeking to fill one position at either the Accountant II or Accountant III level, depending on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience.

Work environment and schedule

This position works a typical workweek schedule in a general office environment and may be eligible for hybrid workdays. The successful candidate should reside within a commutable distance of the Fort Collins area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Models the mission, vision, values, and culture of the organization.
  • Serves as a resource in transactional accounting and related budgeting areas.
  • Supports implementation of accounting initiatives, standards, policies, procedures, and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements.
  • Prepares annual budget components, projections, forecasts, and reporting documents.
  • Prepares quarterly and annual compliance requirements, including sales tax and insurance reporting.
  • Prepares and maintains accounting schedules, account reconciliations, subledger activity, and general journal entries.
  • Performs month-end close processes for subledgers and the general ledger.
  • Performs annual accounting responsibilities, including pension accounting and asset count activities.
  • Prepares variance analyses, forecasts, projections, and financial and operational reports.
  • Collaborates with departments and project managers to review, analyze, and manage complex financial data.
  • Supports budget, forecasting, and reporting education efforts across the organization.
  • Prepares financial information and reporting for management and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with the Financial Systems Manager, consultants, and other stakeholders to maintain and improve financial application systems.
  • Serves as a resource for financial application systems.
  • Researches and prepares complex, confidential, and time-sensitive reports.
  • Prepares and maintains department procedures, accounting forms, guidance documents, and organizational resources.
  • Assists with annual audit activities and prepares supporting schedules.
  • Performs data review, analysis, and validation.
  • Participates in special projects and organizational initiatives.
