Tufas Boulder Lounge is a 12,700 sq/ft bouldering only facility in the heart of South Kensington established in 2018 by local Philly climbers. Our mission is to foster a community centered around rock climbing in Philadelphia, with an inclusive space dedicated to climbing, fitness, and collaboration.

Job Overview

The Welcome Desk Manager is responsible for the welcome desk operations, day-to-day staff management, events, and facility oversight at Tufas Boulder Lounge. The goal of this role is to maintain a view of the bigger picture, to be involved in the different aspects of the gym and stepping in wherever needed. The Welcome Desk Manager works in collaboration with other senior staff and directly with the business Founders to ensure consistent company growth by providing and managing the highest quality experience for customers and staff.

The Welcome Desk Manager is passionate about reflecting the image and mission of Tufas Boulder Lounge and wants to share the sport of rock climbing with everyone who walks through our doors.

  • Welcome Desk Staff Management
    • Hiring Staff, conducting interviews and onboarding new staff
    • Staff evaluations
    • Creates staff schedule and manages changes
    • Tracks and conducts six-month performance evaluations
    • Ensuring staff members are completing responsibilities
    • Ensures the welcome desk is staffed during all hours of operation.
    • Quarterly staff meetings and regular in service training
  • Welcome Desk Facility Management
    • Assist with tracking and restocking welcome desk inventory.
    • Assist in tracking cleaning supplies, first aid, etc are kept in stock
    • Arrange pickup and dropoff of cleaning rags through Happy Nest
    • Keep facility signage current with event posters, hours of operation, etc
    • Manage overall cleanliness and safety of the facility
  • Events
    • Staff and facilitate group climbing events
    • Staff and facilitate special events
    • Ensure all staff are aware of the monthly events and are given talking points to inform the public.
Required Skills
  • 3+ years of climbing experience
  • 2+ years welcome desk experience or equivalents sales experience
Hours and shift Expectations
  • Max 30 hours per week
  • 1:00pm-7:00pm Monday - Friday
    • Daytime, nighttime, and weekend availability required with advanced notice
Compensation and Benefits
  • $20-25 hr
  • 8 days PTO per 12 month full time equivalent
