Salary: $60,000 - $85,000 depending on experience
Position SummaryThe Estimator is tasked with expanding the client base and securing new projects. By applying established estimating methodologies and leveraging current technologies, the Estimator prepares comprehensive proposals that accurately address each project's specifications. Estimators are expected to consistently uphold and embody the values and reputation of Spacecon in all their actions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Project IdentificationMeet with General Contractors and develop relationships with point of contact information.
Responsible for identifying upcoming projects in which Spacecon may want to pursue. The following information is to be considered when making this decision:
- Contractors bidding the project
- Experience with potential clients
- Prequalification process
- Bid date, scope of work, location, tentative start date, completion date, type of project, competition.
Estimators will not commit to estimating a project without the approval of the General Manager and/or the President.
Bid PreparationThe following guidelines are to be followed:
- Read and understand the Specifications and Instruction to Bidders.
- Attend pre-bid meetings as required.
- Visit project site as appropriate.
- Forward questions to the Architect or Contractor for clarification/direction.
- Solicit and evaluate bids from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
- Analyze and adjust production rates.
- Prepare Bid Proposal and/or Bid Form (including Qualifications) and forward Proposal to the appropriate parties.
- Advise the General Manager if a bid bond is required.
- When it is determined by the Estimator/General Manager that a specific contractor is to receive a favorable bid, adjust as directed.
- The Estimator should quickly follow up with the Contractor to ask if there are questions about our Proposal or if a decision has been made on project award.
- Support post-bid interviews, clarifications and negotiations.
Upon project award, notify the General Manager and all impacted parties via E-mail.
Upon receipt, the General Manager will assign a Project Manager to the project.
The Estimator is to schedule and conduct a Kick-off Meeting with the Project Manager, project Foreman and General Superintendent and Director of Warehouse Services. Meeting to include:
- Review of estimate
- Subsistence/housing
- Wage scale and bond requirements
The Estimator is responsible for Contract Scope review upon receipt from the General Contractor.
The Estimators, usually are our initial contact with clients, have a marketing/public relations responsibility which they should be continually working on. Spacecon, as a rule, strives to maintain a positive relationship with a select group of General Contractors. These Contractors, as identified by the General Managers and/or President, will take priority during the bid selection process.
Skills and Abilities- Thorough understanding of safety policies and a commitment to workplace safety regulations and standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with team members, senior management, and customers.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Proficiency in analyzing costs and estimates and making informed decisions.
- A valid driver’s license and safe driving record are required.
- Comprehensive understanding of drywall systems, materials and construction methodologies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, E-1, OnCenter OST/Quick Bid Estimating Software, and other relevant software applications.
- Stay informed on industry trends, material costs and labor rates to ensure estimates reflect current market conditions.
Out-of-town travel might be required.
