SUMMARY

This position reports to a Sr. Specialist or Sr. Supervisor. The purpose of this position is to provide varying levels of support for individuals with disabilities to participate in general recreation class offerings. This role provides direct support to community members and requires excellent communication skills.

WORK SCHEDULE

Hours may include evenings and weekends and vary seasonally. In the summer, 20-40 hours per week may be available. In all other seasons, 5-10 hours a week or less may be available.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assist with inclusion and support of participants with disabilities into City of Fort Collins general recreation offerings as assigned.
  • Utilize a spectrum of tools and techniques to provide varying levels of inclusion support.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, parents, supportive living staff, school teachers and other participants.
  • Complete all required preparation and post-program documentation to support an individual’s overall inclusion goals.
  • Complete all documentation, incident/accident reports, and other required forms in a timely manner.
  • Act as part of an interdisciplinary team by contributing ideas, attending staff meetings, and completing required trainings.
  • Act as an advocate for people with disabilities; provide disability awareness information, emphasize the individual's abilities and similarities, and de-emphasize the differences.
  • Attend all orientations, meetings, in-services, and related workshops as indicated by supervisor.
  • Provide input and planning for programs, modifications, and adaptive equipment.
  • Work with a spectrum of ages and ability levels in a professional and age-appropriate manner.
  • Represent the City in a positive, professional and healthy manner.
LEAD INCLUSIVE RECREATION AIDE DUTIES
  • Meet all duties listed above.
  • Support Inclusion Aides in their daily tasks by providing breaks, additional assistance in inclusion services, documentation support, etc.
  • Model ongoing inclusive education and strategies to staff.
  • Communicate directly with Inclusion Aides and Inclusion Coordinator.
  • Plan and facilitate weekly sensory-based programs under the guidance of Inclusion Coordinator.
  • Work independently.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is not responsible for the supervision of employees or volunteers.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

High school degree or GED required, bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

Applicant must be at least 18 years old.

Must demonstrate dependability, promptness and punctuality.

Ability to work independently without supervision and to make sound judgement calls.
