Position Summary:

The Career Education Manager is a full-time, year round position that serves as the Career Center’s lead for career education in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA). The Career Education Manager designs, coordinates, and delivers career curriculum to: educate all CSU students (with a focus on CLA students) about career paths; engage them in experiential learning opportunities and career planning; prepare them for their job search;

and connect them with potential employers. The Career Education Manager establishes and maintains successful relationships with colleagues in order to lead people toward a common vision of supporting student career readiness, connects multiple offices and departments together to accomplish program goals, and operates within a framework of building structures and systems to support all students in reaching career readiness. This position functions as a key member of the university-wide Career Center and  CLA Dean’s Office.

The role dually reports to the Director of Academic College Partnerships in the Career Center and the Assistant Dean for Student Success in the College of Liberal Arts.

Job Duties:

Leadership, Vision, Strategy, and Oversight for CLA Career Education
* Develop a strategic plan in line with the Career Center strategic plan that focuses on students in the College of Liberal Arts
* Manage efforts to deliver inclusive career services to students in the College of Liberal Arts in order to build a culture of career readiness in the College
* Design and lead innovative career programming for College of Liberal Arts students by applying knowledge of diverse identities, generational traits, student interest areas, and unique CLA student needs related to career education
* Create and deliver effective workshops, presentations, and programming on career-related topics for CSU students
* Maintain knowledge of how different backgrounds and identities impact career exploration and development
* Manage career education events
* Gather CLA data for the CSU First Destination Survey
* Contribute to CLA Ram Welcome, Ram Orientation, commencement ceremonies, and recruitment events as needed
* Regularly educate the full Career Center team (40+ student and professional staff) on best practices for serving CLA students

Relationship Management and Collaboration
* Establish effective communication and referral network between the Career Center and College of Liberal Arts faculty, deans, academic advisors, and internship coordinators
* Educate and consult with CLA faculty and staff regarding career development, first destination data, experiential learning, economic and industry trends, and job search preparation, allowing CLA faculty and staff to actively participate in the career education of CLA students
* Create and expand partnerships with alumni and faculty to grow the CLA alumni network and increase opportunities for current students to interact with alumni around college-to-career topics
* Maintain solid working knowledge of employer and industry trends through collaborative work with the Career Center’s Employer Connections Team; participate in employer visits, career fairs, and industry tours
* Collaborate with College of Liberal Arts communications and recruitment staff to help recruit students and show the value of a liberal arts education

Direct Student Service
* Provide one-on-one career education to CSU students in drop-in and appointment-based formats on the following topics: career exploration, job and internship search skills (networking, resume/cover letter, interviewing, job offer negotiation), and the graduate school application process
* Create and deliver presentations and workshops on career-related topics ranging from self-assessment to job offer negotiation, incorporating identity-related reflection and deconstructing…
