Salary

Pay is determined by the Licensed Educator Salary Schedule based on years of experience and education. Annual range: $58,000 – $89,278 (based on a 100% assignment starting Aug 6 2025). Rates are for the 2025‑26 school year and will be updated for 2026‑27 when negotiated.

Job Description

Secondary Special Education Teacher (FLSA Status: Exempt). Responsible for instructing academic and functional classes to students in Integrated Services/Special Education programs within state and district standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, plan, prepare, and implement course content, format, structure, schedule, classroom materials, activities, lesson plans, individualized education plans (IEPs), transition plans, and staff schedules in compliance with IEPs.
  • Instruct students in large, small, and one‑on‑one settings across the curriculum to students with a wide range of skill levels.
  • Organize and facilitate schedules of students and paraprofessionals and assist in developing a master schedule for the Integrated Services department.
  • Assist in supervision and direction of special education paraprofessionals.
  • Create a classroom environment maximizing instructional opportunity; supervise behavior and wellbeing of students in all educational settings; administer discipline when appropriate.
  • Monitor student learning and progress: evaluate success of instructional approaches, adapt support as needed, maintain documentation related to academic, social, and emotional progress.
  • Communicate student progress and needs to parents/guardians and staff.
  • Collaborate with teachers, support personnel, administrators, other special education providers, outside agencies, and colleagues to enhance instruction and improve outcomes.
  • Demonstrate commitment to understanding, appreciating and accommodating student diversity; including families; supporting district policies; and providing personal and professional excellence.
  • Participate in district, team, building, IEP/staffing, and other meetings, conferences, extracurricular activities, and professional growth opportunities.
  • Arrive on time for work; perform other duties as assigned.
  • Education and Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree with proper teaching licensure program required.
    • Experience in an educational setting with students with special needs preferred.
    Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications
    • Criminal background check required for hire.
    • Valid Colorado teaching license with appropriate endorsements required.
    • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required within 3 months of hire.
    • CPR and First Aid certifications encouraged.
