Position: 2026-27 Paraprofessional I Special Education-Bauder Elementary School

2026‑27 Paraprofessional I Special Education – Bauder Elementary School, Poudre School District

Location: Bauder Elementary – Fort Collins, Colorado

Position Type: Fixed‑Term (2026‑27 school year) – Ongoing

Schedule: 6.5 hours per day, 186 days per year

Pay Range: $19.49–$21.83 per hour (based on qualifications and experience, 2025‑26 rates); rates may be updated for the 2026‑27 school year.

Job Summary

Assist the general classroom or special education teacher by providing instructional, physical, and behavioral support for students with mild to moderate physical disabilities, emotional challenges, or other health impairments so they can fully participate in the general education curriculum.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in delivering targeted instruction, reteaching complex concepts, and reinforcing learning skills in individual or small groups, including adapting instructional materials to support diverse student needs.
  • Support students in the general education and special education settings by guiding classroom assignments, assessments, and larger academic projects, implementing behavior intervention strategies.
  • Proactively manage student behavior, including de‑escalation techniques for physical aggression and self‑regulation coaching.
  • Collaborate with teachers, caseworkers, mental health professionals, and other staff to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavioral strategies.
  • Provide vigilant supervision of students in classrooms, hallways, common areas, and during transitions, enforcing safety protocols and aiding in crisis response.
  • Assist students with mobility, personal care, hygiene, and health‑related needs, using specialized equipment and techniques to maintain dignity and independence.
  • Adjust instructional materials based on IEP requirements, using assistive technology and alternative communication methods as needed.
  • Track and record student progress, behavior incidents, and intervention outcomes; assist with instructional planning, grading, attendance, and data collection.
  • Participate in high‑level training sessions and school‑wide initiatives to stay current on instructional strategies, behavioral interventions, and legal compliance.
  • Adapt quickly to changing student and classroom needs, including filling in for absent staff and managing multiple priorities under minimal supervision.
  • Support high‑stakes initiatives, special projects, and urgent school‑wide needs as directed by administration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Experience working with special needs students preferred.
  • Combination of education and experience acceptable.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Special Education Paraprofessional Academy classes (5 in first 2 years of hire).
Technical Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Oral and written communication skills;
    English language proficiency.
  • Interpersonal skills; basic mathematical skills.
  • Bilingual communication skills may be required or preferred.
  • Ability to work with students having mild to moderate physical or emotional disabilities.
  • Ability to diffuse volatile student situations and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, use time efficiently, and follow instructions under frequent interruptions.
  • Physical ability to lift and transfer students and provide behavior supports.
  • Team‑work, honesty, integrity, and adherence to attendance requirements.
  • Awareness of safety practices and ability to report unsafe conditions.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, standard office equipment, and school software packages.

School Administration; no direct supervisory responsibilities.
