Position: Veterinary Clinical Pathology Residency Training with Research Opportunity

Veterinary Clinical Pathology Residency Training with Research Opportunity

Colorado State University, Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology

The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology, in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University is offering a post-DVM training position in clinical pathology. The program most often includes residency training in veterinary clinical pathology, graduate-level courses, and hypothesis-driven research, which are designed to culminate in specialty board certification and granting of a MS or PhD degree.

Additionally, there is a 1- to 2-year research fellowship (non-degree granting) opportunity. Graduate course requirements are waived for applicants who have both DVM and PhD degrees (although the research fellowship remains available); however implementation and publication of clinical research projects during the residency are required. Residency training is facilitated by a diverse faculty, 27 of whom are ACVP, ACVM or ACLAM board certified.

Research opportunities include, but are not limited to, immunology, molecular diagnostics, infectious diseases, oncology, cytology, biochemical analysis, and hematology. The first three years of residency and graduate training are supported by state-funded stipends. Funding sources for subsequent graduate research are associated with the trainees’ research laboratories (e.g. grants acquired by the principal investigator and successful applications for NIH sponsored training grants and other extramural funding).

Funding for the research fellowship option is through an NIH grant. Benefits include paid tuition and health insurance. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States, have a DVM or equivalent degree from an AVMA accredited College of Veterinary Medicine/equivalent and be able to obtain a Colorado State Academic Veterinary License.

Applications are for positions starting July 1, 2027. No submissions will be accepted after September 15.
