Job Description
Position Summary
The University Honors Program invites applications for part-time instructors to teach a first-year Foundation seminar. The course, “Constructive Communication Across Difference,” serves as the entry point to the four-year Honors experience and plays a central role in shaping students’ academic and civic engagement. Through discussion, reflection, and applied projects, students practice communication strategies that promote curiosity, civic responsibility, and bridge building in an increasingly polarized world.
Students will leave the course with practical professional and civic competencies that prepare them for leadership across disciplines.
Faculty must foster creative, interdisciplinary learning and cultivate an inclusive classroom environment that supports students’ transition to the university while also maintaining rigorous standards to challenge honors students appropriately. Seminars should reflect Honors program objectives ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).). Sections enroll 19-25 students.
Instructors participate in required professional development prior to teaching the course and engage in continued professional learning throughout their first semester to support effective delivery of the Foundation seminar.

Brief Work Unit DescriptionThe University Honors Program (UHP) at Colorado State University provides an enriched academic experience for approximately 1800 highly motivated and academically talented students. Honors students engage in small, discussion‑based seminars taught by outstanding faculty or select community professionals that foster creative, interdisciplinary learning. In addition to their Honors coursework and major requirements, students pursue leadership, research, and community‑based opportunities that extend their academic experience beyond the classroom.
SalaryRange
$46-$50,000 9‑month salary (prorated for part‑time work)
EssentialJob Duties
Essential job duties vary, but may include:
- Develop and deliver interdisciplinary coursework using common learning outcomes for Foundation seminars.
- Contribute to the Honors first‑year experience and broader program culture.
Appointments are based on program need and enrollment. Specific duties will be defined at the time of hire by the supervising faculty member.
Conditions of EmploymentPre‑employment criminal background check (required for new hires)
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s degree (or equivalent industry experience) in a relevant academic discipline or professional field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of first‑year student transition and development, including fostering belonging and integrating curricular and co‑curricular learning.
- Academic and/or professional experience engaging constructively across differences.
- Experience teaching interdisciplinary or Honors seminars.
- Experience designing coursework that supports student “meaning making” and reflective learning.
