Position Summary

The Ameri Corps member will serve as part of the Education Department at the museum, working directly under the supervision of the Education Coordinator. The primary focus is to support and deliver high‑impact educational programming to K‑12 students, with an emphasis on equitable access to culturally relevant history education. The member will facilitate Hands‑on History programs, field trips, and other student‑focused educational experiences, and may assist with community events, adult educational programming, and broader outreach initiatives as capacity allows.

Terms

of Service
  • The Member will serve at the El Pueblo History Museum.
  • The Ameri Corps member will serve for an average of 36 hours per week during the service term, for a minimum of 1,700 hours over the service term.
  • Flexible hours are required, including occasional evenings; weekend hours are expected regularly.
  • The Ameri Corps member will be directly supervised by the Education Coordinator, with additional oversight and support provided by the Program Manager.
  • Service term:
    September 8, 2026 to August 20, 2027.
  • Mandatory Orientation on September 8 and 9, 2026 at the History Colorado Museum in Denver.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Facilitate field trips, classroom visits, and other educational activities, tailoring content to be culturally relevant and aligned with academic standards.
  • Create and teach lesson plans for Hands‑On History classes aligned with our Hands‑On History pillars.
  • Collaborate with museum staff and community partners to enhance program reach and impact.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to the continuous improvement of educational programming.
  • Support and facilitate other History Colorado community engagement and story initiative projects as needed.
Service Term Overview
  • Core Programming & Camps:
    • Academic Year (September 2026 – May 2027):
      Facilitate weekly Hands‑On History (HOH) Friday programs.
    • Winter Break (Late December 2026):
      Support the HOH Winter Break Camp.
    • Spring Break (March 22–26, 2027):
      Assist with the HOH Spring Break Camp.
    • Summer (June – August 2027):
      Support the HOH Summer Camp, managing facilitation and daily clean‑up.
  • Special Events:
    • Día de los Muertos Celebration – November 1, 2026.
    • Holiday Cultural Festival – December 5, 2026.
Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
  • Ability to pass criminal history checks.
  • Strong interest in history, education, or a related field.
  • At least three (3) months of full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience working with school‑age children ages 5‑18 (455 hours).
