Job Description

Paraprofessional Integrated Services I support students with mild to moderate physical disabilities, emotional disabilities, other health impairments, and/or special needs. This role assists general and special education teachers with instruction, accommodations, behavior support, personal care, and data collection to help students participate in class activities and access the general education curriculum. The position ranges between 3 and 8 hours per day across multiple locations.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the general classroom or special education teacher in delivering targeted instruction, reteaching complex concepts, and reinforcing learning skills in individual or small groups; adapt instructional materials to support diverse student needs.
  • Independently support students within general and special education settings by guiding classroom assignments, assessments, and larger academic projects; implement behavior intervention strategies to address social, emotional, and academic needs.
  • Manage student behavior, including de-escalation for physical aggression and self-regulation coaching; support development of appropriate social interactions and emotional coping strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers, caseworkers, mental health professionals, and other staff to implement IEPs and behavioral strategies to support students with diverse needs.
  • Provide vigilant supervision in classrooms, hallways, common areas, and during transitions; enforce safety protocols and assist with crisis response as needed.
  • Assist students with mobility, personal care, hygiene, and health-related needs; use specialized equipment and techniques to maintain student dignity and independence.
  • Adjust instructional materials based on individual IEPs to accommodate students, including those with hearing, vision, or cognitive impairments; utilize assistive technology and alternative communication as needed.
  • Track and record student progress, behavior incidents, and intervention outcomes; assist with instructional planning, grading, attendance, and data collection to support student success plans.
  • Attend and participate in training sessions and school-wide initiatives to stay updated on instructional strategies, behavioral interventions, and compliance requirements.
  • Adapt to changing student and classroom needs, including covering for absent staff and managing multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Support high-stakes initiatives, special projects, and urgent school-wide needs as directed by administration; contribute to a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Education and Related Work Experience
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • One year of related experience
    • Experience working with special needs students preferred
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable
    Licenses, Registrations or Certifications
    • Criminal background check required for hire
    • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) within 3 months of hire
    • Special Education Paraprofessional Academy classes (5 in first 2 years of hire)
    Technical Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
    • Oral and written communication skills;
      English language proficiency; interpersonal relations
    • Mathematical skills including basic calculations; ability to use assistive technology and alternative communication
    • Bilingual abilities may be required or preferred
    • Ability to work with students with mild to moderate disabilities; de-escalation and safety awareness
    • Maintain confidentiality; manage multiple tasks with attention to detail
    • Ability to lift and transfer students; provide behavior supports and health-related care as needed
    • Team-oriented, honest, and intent on maintaining safety in the workplace
    • Adherence to attendance requirements and district policies; work with diverse backgrounds
    • Safety awareness and ability to report unsafe conditions
    Materials and Equipment
    • Operating knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office or department software
    • Experience with standard office equipment (phone, copier, fax, email, etc.)

    This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities; supervises student behavior and wellbeing as part of classroom activities and during transportation and transitions.
