Creative Arts instructors will enjoy spending time with children, creating a positive and supportive learning environment, and demonstrate a passion to teach to the younger generation.

Work Schedule
This is a part-time, fluctuating hourly position that plans for and teaches youth dance classes year-round. Program hours vary depending on class schedule. Evening availability required. Morning and weekend availability is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain active supervision of children, ensuring safety and awareness of children’s whereabouts during all class times.
  • Plan and prepare progressive, age-appropriate dance lessons, monitoring participant progress to meet individual and group needs.
  • Plan a yearly, end of season recital in collaboration with other members of the dance team including but not limited to choreographing recital pieces, selecting appropriate music and costumes, working with the program coordinator to solidify dates, times and locations, etc.
  • Serve as a substitute for other dance teachers as needed/available.
  • Utilize developmentally appropriate guidance strategies to redirect children and encourage participation and engagement.
  • Conduct positive, respectful interactions with participants and their families including greetings and departures and communication of skill-based progress and/or behavior guidance/supports needed.
  • Manage classroom space including set-up and clean-up of all equipment and materials.
  • Manage activity supply inventory and communicating purchasing requests to the Sr. Supervisor.
  • Conduct positive, respectful communication with on-site recreation center staff and relays relevant information back to the Sr. Supervisor.
  • Attend recreation staff meetings and required trainings as scheduled.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position is not responsible for the direct supervision of any City employees. Experienced instructors may assist the Recreation Coordinator with supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable law which may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
