Your Opportunity

We are looking for an Intermediate to Senior Geoscientist with the ability to join our Fort Collins, Colorado office (would consider another Stantec Office that fits with our business model). This individual would be joining a global team of specialists that reduce the impacts of geohazards, save lives, develop resilient infrastructure, and help protect communities.

Geohazards and Geomorphology Team – Responsibilities
  • The Geohazards and Geomorphology team at Stantec develops geomorphological and geohazard models through mapping and terrain assessments.
  • Models hillslope and channel processes and sediment transport to inform design for mitigating risk.
  • Assesses and analyzes pre- and post-wildfire debris flows and debris hazards and risk assessments. Integrates models into engineering design, management, mitigation and monitoring solutions.
  • Landslide inventory mapping, probability of failure assessments, and quantitative hazard and risk analyses.
  • Field mapping and investigations of hillslope, fluvial, coastal, karst, and tectonic geomorphology and geohazards.
  • Interprets and analyzes aerial, satellite, InSAR, LiDAR, and UAV data to inform and monitor critical infrastructure and communities.
  • Advances engineering geological models based on desktop and field analyses to inform clients on current and future conditions.
  • Works across business line and technical specialties that regularly include archaeologists, biologists, hydrotechnical, geotechnical, civil and environmental engineers, geomatics practitioners, and GIS experts.

Your Duties

This is a technical role at an intermediate to senior level (job title to be determined based on experience). You could reasonably be expected to:

  • Provide technical expertise and conduct (at the desktop and field levels) - geomorphological assessments
  • Landslide and landslide hazard assessments
  • Landslide risk assessments
  • Fluvial assessments
  • Model natural hazard phenomena including landslides, rock fall, debris avalanches, debris flows, debris floods, and floods using industry leading software
  • Mentor junior staff and collaborate with experienced colleagues and subject matter experts to provide ‘best in class’ solutions to client challenges
  • Compile and analyze data in ArcGIS Pro
  • Collect field data and travel to and from sites. Short (5-10 days) interstate trips are not uncommon
  • Plan and lead field crews to safely acquire the data necessary to solve client challenges
  • Write reports and be responsible for their technical accuracy, communicating limitations and assumptions, delivering within a budget and schedule, and ensuring that the quality meets state requirements and Stantec expectations
  • Keep accurate time records and submit them weekly
  • Represent Stantec and the Geohazards and Geomorphology team as subject matter expert to our clients and the public at large
  • Assist with business development and scope development
Your Capabilities And Credentials
  • The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:
  • A proven in-depth understanding of geomorphology with a focus on slopes or river systems. The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in the field of geomorphology, geology, engineering geology or related field and relevant experience.
