As a Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the design and development of the beam transport system, ensuring integration for our state-of-the-art high‑power laser facility in Fort Collins, CO. This includes drafting detailed specifications, creating 3D models, and conducting simulations. Oversee the procurement of components and materials, working closely with suppliers to meet project requirements. Manage the installation and commissioning of the beam transport system, ensuring adherence to timelines and safety protocols.
Work closely with cross-functional teams, including optical engineers, physicists, and project managers, to ensure seamless integration and functionality of the system. Provide technical guidance and support throughout the project life cycles.
- Design, test and commission mechanical and mechatronics systems for our scientific setups
- Support our experiments on spot at the ATLAS facility and other national or international high power laser facilities
- Work on projects both independently and in teams, using professional engineering concepts to develop practical and creative solutions to complex engineering problems
- Contribute with your experience to the overall setup of experimental campaigns
- Interact with external partners and suppliers, as well as internal departments
- Interact and collaborate with our scientists to design experimental scientific equipment
- 3D-design for manufacturing custom scientific instruments, optical setups, vacuum equipment
- Assemble, test, install and commission electro-mechanical components for the experiments
- Maintain a digital twin of the experimental setups
- Create and maintain the relevant engineering documentation
- Participation in the preparation phase and during experimental campaigns
- A degree in engineering e.g. mechanical, aerospace, optical, nuclear or related.
- Strong background in vacuum technology, cleanroom protocols, scientific instrumentation and optics (including the design and alignment of optical systems).
- Proficiency in designing and working with pressure vessels and their compliance to PED.
- Experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to simulate and optimize mechanical components.
- Experience in design and manufacturing surveillance of structures according to EN 1090 EXC
3. - Understanding of quality manufacturing principles according to ISO
9001 and ISO
10007 or similar. - Excellent writing and oral communication skills in English.
- Understanding of control systems for the automation and monitoring of mechanical and optical systems
- Experience with quality management
- Experience with optical simulations e.g. ANSYS, Zemax, Optic Studio is a plus
The pay range for this position is: $100,000 - $148,256 per year.
The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Candidates may be considered for other positions at Marvel Fusion, and our actual base salary will be determined on an individual basis and may vary depending on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
The range is published in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.
