Join the Larimer County Solid Waste team as a Hazardous Waste Technician!
In this role, you will support the County's Household Hazardous Waste Program by safely identifying, handling, and managing hazardous waste from residents. You'll perform technical waste management tasks, maintain the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and keep accurate records to support safe and responsible waste disposal.

Responsibilities- Provides customer service, providing alternative options for customers with unaccepted waste.
- Screens and accepts household hazardous waste from program participants.
- Properly identifies, classifies, inventories, and stores accepted household hazardous waste.
- Keeps the collection facility cleaned and maintained.
- Performs chemical tests to identify unknown household hazardous waste.
- Consolidates household hazardous waste using lab‑packing and loose‑packing methods.
- Bulks various flammable waste materials by pouring off into drums and oil tank.
All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.
- Knowledge of general office practices, procedures, and administrative support functions.
- Proficiency with standard business software, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, email, and databases.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply County and department policies, procedures, regulations, and standard operating procedures.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, partner agencies, contractors, and members of the public.
- Reliable attendance and the ability to maintain a consistent work schedule.
- Knowledge of basic chemistry and toxicology principles related to hazardous materials.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing hazardous waste management, including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). materials regulations, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
- Ability to safely identify, handle, package, and manage hazardous waste while following established environmental and safety protocols.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate records and regulatory compliance.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- One (1) year of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities required.
- Possession of OSHA 40‑hour Hazardous Waste Operations Certification within six (6) months of hire required.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.

ScheduleThis position is scheduled for a 40‑hour workweek. Work hours are scheduled during the facility's operating hours, Monday through Saturday.
