Director, Power Semiconductor Device
Advanced Energy is seeking an accomplished Director of Power Semiconductor Device to provide technical and organizational leadership for semiconductor component quality, reliability, failure analysis, and root cause corrective action (RCCA) activities across all business units. Reporting to the Senior Director of Power Semiconductor Device, this role serves as the technical leader of the Power Semiconductor Device organization, with responsibility for guiding and developing a team of highly specialized professionals, including Power Semiconductor Device Engineers and Data Analysts.
The Director will lead the identification and resolution of complex semiconductor-related quality and reliability issues impacting Advanced Energy products, customers, and manufacturing operations. This position combines deep technical expertise in Si, SiC, and GaN power semiconductor technologies with strong leadership capabilities to drive enterprise-wide problem solving, supplier engagement, reliability improvements, and strategic initiatives.
Organizational & Technical Leadership
- Lead the Power Semiconductor Device organization and provide technical direction across all semiconductor-related quality and reliability activities.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of subject matter experts, including Power Semiconductor Device Engineers and Data Analysts.
- Establish department priorities, operating objectives, technical standards, and performance metrics.
- Serve as the escalation point for critical semiconductor quality, reliability, and customer-impacting events.
- Build organizational capability in semiconductor failure analysis, reliability engineering, RCCA, and data-driven quality management.
Semiconductor Failure Analysis & RCCA
- Lead enterprise-level investigations involving power semiconductor failures impacting customers, field reliability, suppliers, and manufacturing operations.
- Direct cross-functional RCCA, 8D, CAR, and CAPA activities across business units.
- Ensure robust, physics-based root cause investigations and effective corrective actions.
- Review and approve technical conclusions, containment actions, and long-term corrective action plans.
- Drive closure of high-impact quality and reliability escalations with internal teams and suppliers.
Semiconductor Technology & Reliability Leadership
- Serve as a recognized technical authority in:
Silicon MOSFETs SiC MOSFETs GaN power devices Power modules Advanced semiconductor packaging technologies - Guide reliability qualification strategies and supplier qualification activities.
- Define best practices for semiconductor selection, application, qualification, derating, and reliability assessment.
- Provide technical leadership for emerging semiconductor technologies and strategic component roadmaps.
Supplier Quality & Executive Engagement
- Lead technical engagements with semiconductor suppliers on critical quality and reliability issues.
- Review supplier failure analysis reports, corrective actions, process changes, and qualification activities.
- Conduct executive-level technical reviews with strategic suppliers.
- Partner with Supplier Quality and Supply Chain teams to improve supplier performance and risk management.
- Develop strategic relationships with key semiconductor manufacturers and technology partners.
Manufacturing & Product Quality Support
- Partner with Manufacturing, Design Engineering, Product Engineering, Reliability Engineering, CQE, SQE, and CFA teams to resolve complex issues.
- Assess manufacturing, assembly, and application-related contributors to semiconductor failures.
- Drive improvements in incoming quality oversight, failure analysis processes, reliability screening, and manufacturing controls.
- Support NPI and product sustaining activities related to semiconductor reliability and quality.
Data Analytics & Continuous Improvement
- Direct the development of quality and reliability analytics, dashboards, and executive reporting.
- Utilize field return, supplier, manufacturing, and customer quality data to identify systemic risks and improvement opportunities.
