Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Wire Bonding

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Wire Bonding is the technical owner of Advanced Energy's wire bonding processes, equipment, and related manufacturing technologies. This role is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining wire bonding operations used in the manufacture of advanced power electronics products. The engineer will drive yield improvements, process capability, equipment performance, and continuous improvement initiatives while partnering closely with operations, quality, and product engineering teams across multiple global business units.

This role directly supports the manufacture of advanced power conversion technologies used in semiconductor, industrial, healthcare, and critical infrastructure applications worldwide.

Assists with line capacity planning and drives yield improvements in collaboration with management and engineering teams across three global business units (BUs)

Investigate daily production issues and leads efforts to improve yield, enhance product quality, and reduce manufacturing costs

Estimates manufacturing costs, determines time standards, and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements

Develops corrective actions based on product quality feedback and monitors implementation for effectiveness

Drives continuous improvement projects to elevate product performance in manufacturing

Performs preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment

Creates and modifies manufacturing process documentation

Takes ownership of documentation related to the business unit within AE's Quality Management System (QMS), including document creation, revision, and obsolescence through Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)

Implements manufacturing best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to increase production efficiency and effectiveness

Analyzes work content for distribution to work centers and capacity requirements

Recommends and implements process improvements that support manufacturing excellence

Assists product design teams to drive designs that meet all cost and quality goals

Reviews product requirements with design staff to ensure compatibility with processing methods

Performs Design for Manufacturability analysis on new products

Provides technical guidance and training to operators and technicians on manufacturability, process controls, and implementation of process improvements

Owns all aspects of the wire bonding process, including equipment programming, process development, troubleshooting, maintenance, qualification, and continuous improvement across multiple wire bonding systems

Owns training and qualification activities related to wire bonding processes and equipment

Collaborates with global business units to communicate process requirements, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.

ISO 7 (Class 10,000) cleanroom manufacturing environment approximately 75% of the time

Electronic test environment to include high voltage test stands and ancillary equipment

Standard office environment utilizing standard office equipment

Comfortable working with various manufacturing and electronics tools: vacuum reflow ovens, wire bonders, solder printers, and EFDs

Demonstrated hands-on experience owning or supporting wire bonding processes for Integrated Power Electronics Modules (IPEM) in electronics, semiconductor, or automotive manufacturing environments

Ability to design fixtures for soldering and wire bonding

Ability to design, execute, and manage multiple small-scale Design of Experiments (DOEs) concurrently

Proficient in 8 disciplines of problem solving
