Responsibilities
- Acquire, retain, and expand new and existing customer relationships by providing exceptional service and recommending appropriate banking products based on a thorough knowledge of Mechanics Bank offerings.
- Take ownership of the customer experience from introduction to ongoing profiling, assessing banking and borrowing needs, and utilizing the STAR qualities (Seamless, Trustworthy, Attentive, Resourceful) in person or on the telephone.
- Open and close a variety of customer accounts, including checking, savings, money markets, certificates of deposit, and IRAs, and ensure all products meet the customer’s needs.
- Perform daily teller services such as processing deposits, withdrawals, holds, loan payments, stop payments, telephone transfers, direct deposits, cash advances, debit‑card requests, wire transfers, and other related matters.
- Balance cash drawer independently, maintain cash over‑and‑short records, and, when assigned, control vault cash. Follow policies to meet cash shipment requirements and daily balancing.
- Cross‑sell banking products and services to new and existing customers, actively seeking sales opportunities and making referrals to other business lines for non‑banking products.
- Resolve difficult customer situations with creativity, tact, and diplomacy while maintaining a friendly, positive, and professional attitude.
- Participate in branch audit functions, comply with all Mechanics Bank policies and regulatory requirements, and perform any other duties as requested.
- Support branch lobby management and assist fellow CSRs with work assignments and balancing tasks.
- Engage in community events (at least two per year) to enhance the bank’s local presence.
- Minimum of 2 years of cash‑handling and customer‑service experience; banking experience preferred.
- Experience with opening new deposit accounts and cross‑selling banking products.
- Strong customer‑relations skills and the ability to communicate effectively with employees and customers in a cooperative, positive manner.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient PC skills, including Word and Excel; familiarity with teller/bank software is preferred.
- Self‑starter who is dependable, meets deadlines under pressure, and demonstrates sound judgment and the ability to manage confidential information.
- Accurate and quick in performing tasks and analyzing information to make decisions.
- High school diploma or equivalent and willingness to assume additional responsibilities, duties, and projects as they arise.
