About the Role
Grade Level (internal use): 11. You will join the Americas Public Finance team of S&P Global Ratings, one of the world’s leading providers of independent credit risk research and benchmarks. The charter schools team focuses on credit analysis for charter schools, independent schools, and community colleges, supporting funding initiatives and growth across the economy.
ImpactAs a Senior Analyst, you will lead credit analysis and rating recommendations for charter schools and similar institutions. You will prepare detailed committee presentations, write analytical reports, participate in investor calls, and advise senior staff on complex issues. Your work will improve efficiencies in public‑finance credit analysis and enhance the organization’s expertise.

Responsibilities- Serve as the primary analyst on credit transactions and prepare well‑supported rating recommendations for the rating committee.
- Act as a vocal voting member of the rating committee, reviewing materials prior to publication.
- Publish timely and insightful credit reports and contribute to research pieces.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of ratings criteria, financial statement analysis, and stay informed on news affecting municipal bond markets.
- Evaluate multiple analytical scenarios and communicate rationale clearly in group settings.
- Mentor and provide analytic support to junior analysts.
- Work from the office at least two days per week.
- 2–5+ years of experience in public‑finance credit analysis, municipal bond analysis, or related financial analysis roles.
- Independent, critical thinking with strong integrity and analytical curiosity.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to articulate complex ideas across functions and levels.
- Attention to detail and quantitative analysis skills.
- Ability to interpret data accurately and apply criteria to generate insights.
- Skill in working with incomplete or conflicting data and identifying options in non‑routine situations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, aptitude for new applications, and familiarity with generative AI tools.
- Preferred: MBA, MPA, MPP, JD, CFA.
- Knowledge of GASB and FASB accounting standards.
- Experience in the municipal market with focus on charter schools, independent schools, or community colleges.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, markets, and S&P's analytical products.
- Ability to influence and advise junior colleagues in operational processes.
Base salary range: $91,000 – $119,000, depending on location, experience, and skills. The role is eligible for an annual incentive plan and additional S&P Global benefits. For more information on benefits, see S&P Global Benefits.
