Description

UCHealth is expanding its Radiation Oncology services in Northern Colorado and is hiring two board-certified or board-eligible medical physicists to join its growing, collaborative team at our Fort Collins Campus. Chosen applicants will join a group of 8 physicists, split between the new site at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland and the existing Poudre Valley Hospital Harmony Campus in Fort Collins, alongside 8 dosimetrists and 5 radiation oncologists.

Our busy program features robust stereotactic, LDR, and HDR brachytherapy programs. The northern region of UCHealth is supported by:

  • 4 Varian Truebeams and 1 Varian Edge (total)
  • Aria v18.2 and Eclipse v18.1.1
  • Radformation software suite
  • Comprehensive suite of Sun Nuclear QA equipment

The team emphasizes flexibility and work life balance with options such as four 10-hour shifts and shared coverage within a fast-paced, well-supported environment that has steady year-over-year growth.

Summary

Responsible for ensuring the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy to patients. This role involves collaborating with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and radiation therapists to design and implement treatment plans, calibrate and maintain radiation equipment, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities
  • Performs equipment calibration, maintenance and quality assurance (QA) testing on treatment devices to ensure they are operating within specified parameters, addressing technical issues or discrepancies, patient‑specific quality assurance testing, and routine maintenance testing and troubleshooting equipment problems to minimize downtime.
  • Supports treatment plan development and review, including collaboration with physicians and dosimetrists during the treatment planning process, review and approval of patient treatment plans, and ensuring accuracy and clinical protocol compliance of dosimetry calculations.
  • Supervise special procedures, such as SRS/SBRT treatment sessions or brachytherapy procedures, and ability to cross‑cover most clinical responsibilities.
  • Professional development, clinical projects, and participation in Quality Improvement/Process Improvement.

Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast‑paced environment and take appropriate action.

Requirements
  • Master's degree in Medical Physics, Physics, Radiation Biology or related field.
  • American Board of Radiology (A ) certified or board eligible within 2 years. Relevant certification as determined at position level.
  • ADDITIONAL POSITION LEVEL CREDENTIAL INFORMATION:
    Board eligible with completion of board certification or QMP within 2 years.
  • Successful completion of an approved residency program thru Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP) is required prior to start date.
