Overview

Job summary The Application Engineer II is responsible for translating business requirements and functional specifications into enterprise solutions, for developing, configuring or modifying enterprise solutions, and for facilitating the implementation and maintenance of enterprise solutions. These solutions will come from one of the following areas: enterprise applications, data engineering or software engineering.

This position will be posted for seven days.

Work environment and schedule

This position works a typical workweek schedule (Monday through Thursday or Monday through Friday) in a general office environment and may be eligible for hybrid workdays. The successful candidate should reside within a commutable distance of Fort Collins. Performing this work requires occasional physical effort to lift and carry light objects and is primarily sedentary; minimal walking or standing is required on an as-needed basis.

duties and responsibilities
  • Models the mission, vision, values, and culture of the organization
  • Works directly with software applications throughout their lifecycle to ensure they work well, are user-friendly, reliable, secure, and perform efficiently
  • Develops and configures enterprise applications based on set standards, specifications, and timelines
  • Follows development best practices associated with the position’s solution area including version control, continuous integration / continuous deployment (CI/CD), automation, code quality, code reviews, secure design principles, and unit testing
  • Monitors, debugs, and optimizes applications to boost performance and reliability
  • Can serve as a backup/emergency Database Administrator (DBA)
  • Installs and sets up software for users, providing necessary training
  • Works with IT staff, vendors, consultants, and customers to define specifications, schedule and implement updates, and troubleshoot issues
  • Creates and maintains documentation
  • Helps enforce software licensing and usage policies
  • Offers support, assistance, and technical guidance to users and IT team members
  • Participates in various projects, sometimes leading smaller, less complex ones with some guidance
  • Collaborates with customers to understand their business needs and develop quality solutions
  • Analyzes and resolves issue in support of existing applications and projects
  • Models the mission, vision, values, and culture of the organization
  • Offers technical support and expertise in enterprise applications
  • Resolves Service Desk tickets
  • Occasionally delivers presentations or training sessions to staff
  • Collaborates with colleagues and customers to promote software, applications, or data solutions that meet current and future business needs
  • Conducts research and provides input on business processes, development options, and third-party software applications
  • Suggests appropriate third-party solutions or services when needed and interacts with providers to secure them
  • Works with other staff to address continuity planning considerations
  • Helps refine Platte River’s software development standards
  • Occasionally works evenings, weekends, after hours, or on-call for events (scheduled and unscheduled)
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Proficiency with vulnerability management tools (Tenable, Qualys, etc.) and asset discovery/CMDB tools (Flexera, Service Now, Manage Engine, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of enterprise networks, cloud environments, container workloads, and OT/ICS.
  • Ability to correlate vulnerability data with exploitability intelligence (EPSS, KEV, MITRE ATT&CK).
  • Strong knowledge of NIST CSF, CIS Controls v8, and NERC CIP-002/005/007/010/013.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings to diverse audiences and influence remediation outcomes.
Qualified candidates

Required criteria

  • Education:

    bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information technology, engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Experience:

    at least three years in software development, application engineering or a related field
Pay

This position is an exempt role; salaries are paid bi-weekly and are annualized below for reference. Factors that may be used to determine actual salary include specific skills, years of experience, education, and certifications.

  • Full range: $99,538 to $139,419
  • Hiring range: $99,538 to $119,533
