This role is a high-stakes blend of mission-critical IT support and rugged field engineering designed to support Larimer County’s emergency communications infrastructure. You will be responsible for the technical health of six 9-1-1 dispatch centers, ensuring that radio console hardware and software remain stable, standardized, and interoperable. Beyond office-based support and vendor coordination, the position requires a hands-on approach to infrastructure, including supporting complex communication systems and performing physical maintenance at remote mountain tower sites.
Success in this role requires a unique combination of advanced technical troubleshooting and the physical ability to operate specialized off-road vehicles in challenging terrain, ensuring first responders never lose their lifeline.
The typical schedule for this position is a regular work week, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (no remote options). Weekend work and overtime work will be required for system installations or emergency on call for console issues.
What you’ll be doing :- Demonstrating a commitment to being respectful and valuing differences among individuals.
- Serving as the primary support for all Motorola radio consoles across six (6) 9-1-1 centers in Larimer County.
- Installing, programming, maintaining, and repairing the County’s microwave, radio, and telecommunications systems.
- Assisting with the design and construction of communications systems for County departments and partner agencies, as requested.
- Coordinating and participating in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic communications equipment throughout Larimer County.
- Staying current on emerging technologies, regulatory requirements, and industry trends to ensure County communications systems and plans remain aligned.
- Participating in an on-call rotation to support emergency repairs of County public safety communications systems.

What we’re looking for:- Knowledge of computer device support and networking fundamentals to maintain radio console hardware and software across multiple 9-1-1 centers in Larimer County.
- Experience assisting with the design, construction, and support of large and/or complex radio and communications systems or networks for County and partner agencies.
- Experience working in a collaborative, multi-stakeholder environment, supporting six (6) 9-1-1 centers using standardized, repeatable, and stable systems.
- Coordination with software and hardware communications vendors to ensure timely resolution of critical issues impacting dispatch operations countywide.
- Strong relationship-building skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees, partner agencies, organizations, and community members.
- Safe and effective operation of 4x4 pickup trucks, snowmobiles, side-by-sides, and other vehicles or trailers to access remote mountain sites.
