Position: Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical/ICU - Full Time - Nights

Job Description

Job Requirements

Education

  • Graduate from an accredited Diploma School of Nursing/College of Nursing with an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

License/Certifications

  • Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.

Experience

  • Two to five years previous inpatient nursing experience preferred.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Knowledge of computer resources.
  • Proficiency in nursing practice.
  • Self-directed with strong communication across disciplines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of disciplines.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities
  • Provides an accurate and thorough assessment of the patient/family to identify human responses to actual or potential health conditions.
  • Performs patient care assessments and reassessments based on patient condition and established policy/procedure.
  • Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Assesses and reassesses pain and pain management techniques; documents assessments in an accurate, legible, and timely manner.
  • Formulates a nursing diagnosis, identifies patient problems, sets goals, and develops a teaching plan based on identified learning needs.
  • Revises plan of care as indicated by patient response.
  • Develops and implements a discharge plan based on assessment data.
  • Implements a nursing treatment regimen and provides proper nursing practices in accordance with age-related standards of care.
  • Performs direct patient care using professional nursing skills and judgment according to physician and licensed practitioner orders.
  • Educates patients and families on health practices; participates in patient and family education programs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on patient age and condition; documents nursing care per standards and policies.
  • Evaluates the plan of care and treatment for all patients under care; adjusts as needed to meet goals and assess learning and discharge needs.
  • Coordinates and supervises patient care within a multidisciplinary team; communicates pertinent information clearly and appropriately.
  • Assists physicians with procedures and patient rounds; exercises delegation skills within scope of practice and evaluates outcomes.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration with co-workers and other departments to plan discharge.
  • Adheres to safety policies and regulatory requirements (OSHA, JCAHO, CLIA) and completes departmental safety requirements annually.
