The Registered Nurse — PRN assists in the delivery of safe health care to university students who present to the CSU Health Network in the Medical Clinic. This position will work in the medical clinic as a team nurse who provides medical nursing care for a team of providers. This position must be flexible to work in a variety of clinics (acute care, primary care, sexual & reproductive health, immunizations, or allergy) as the needs arise for patient care.
The Registered Nurse — PRN works a varying schedule on a “as needed” basis, Monday‑Friday, between the hours of 7:30 AM — 6:00 PM or later depending on patient variables. The position is asked to be available a minimum of four, 8‑hour shifts per month, with additional shifts available to cover staff absences at the request of the Nurse Manager and agreed upon by the Registered Nurse — PRN.
This position works 0‑19 hours per week, and is not benefits eligible. The hourly rate is $42.10 / per hour.
EssentialJob Duties
Assess patient acuity by obtaining vital signs, chief complaints, and medical histories while documenting all findings in the electronic health record.
Prepare patients for provider evaluations by gathering supplies, performing point‑of‑care testing, and carrying out standing orders and medication administration.
Assist providers with the set‑up and implementation of clinical procedures using clean and sterile techniques to ensure safe, high‑quality patient care including IUD insertion/removal, Nexplanon insertion/removal and mole removals.
Administer treatments such as nebulizer therapy, IV fluids, IV/IM medications, immunizations/vaccines, wound care, and burn care according to provider orders.
Perform diagnostic testing and specimen collection, including EKGs, Spirometry and audiograms, to support accurate assessment and treatment planning.
Communicate patient updates, laboratory results, prescription refills, and follow‑up instructions while serving as a telephone resource for patient concerns.
Collaborate with healthcare teams by reporting patient findings promptly and preparing patients for hospital transport when clinically indicated.
Support team development through outreach participation, mentoring coworkers and Medical Assistants, and precepting nursing students, along with performing other related duties as assigned.
Pre‑employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires).
Special Requirements – The CSU Health Network follows CDC guidelines for Employee Health in a healthcare setting, including proof of vaccinations. Employees must show proof of compliance/willingness to comply by start date.
Possession of current Registered Nurse license through the State of Colorado.
Current certification in AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS).
Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university AND Associate Degree in Nursing;
OR Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.Three years of nursing experience in direct patient care.
Clinical Triage Expertise — Skilled in telephone and in‑person nurse triage with sound clinical judgment in urgent or primary care settings.
Outpatient Care Experience — Background in urgent care, university health services, or other primary care outpatient environments.
Young Adult Population Care — Demonstrated ability to deliver developmentally appropriate care to college‑age and young adult patients.
