Position Summary

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Key Functions & Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct the quality control program to ensure continuous production of products consistent with established standards.
  • Develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine current standards and establish proposed quality and reliability expectations of the finished product.
  • Use data from various reports to analyze quality problems and create corrective action plans that improve product quality.
  • Continuously monitor the top ten quality problems and coordinate corrective action plans to eliminate them.
  • Monitor the quality of incoming raw materials.
  • Act as plant sanitarian and ensure product safety.
  • Perform audits of the manufacturing facility and product safety system to ensure compliance with sanitation guidelines, SQF, and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Develop and audit systems for production and waste reporting and analyze plant waste on a monthly basis.
  • Use statistical methods for analysis and provide plans for cost reduction and productivity improvement.
  • Work directly with customers on quality issues, respond to customer complaints, and develop corrective action plans to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Formulate and maintain quality control objectives and coordinate these with production procedures to maximize product reliability and minimize cost.
  • Work with the Amcor Technical Center to assure quality and schedule quality improvements.
  • Direct employees engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products.
  • Investigate and adjust customer complaints; suggest plant improvements to stop similar complaints.
  • Enter data and interpret spreadsheets.
  • Ensure safety and housekeeping for the department.
  • Manage the plant-wide quality assurance program and its documentation control.
  • Lead continuous improvement programs for the quality system, including SPC.
  • Oversee raw material vendor quality assurance, liaison with vendors for quality issue resolution, issuance of DMRS, and follow‑up to ensure credits for all rejected material.
  • Conduct incoming raw material inspection and testing for conformance to specifications.
  • Administer government contract requirements for all government‑produced products.
  • Maintain certification of all gauges and the certification program.
  • Act as contact person for all government inspections.
  • Facilitate the quality circle and task‑force program at the plant level.
  • Act as counselor on methods for problem solving.
  • Dispose of materials held for QA inspection and review with Plant Manager decisions to scrap product and prevent shipment of defective material.
  • Act as contact person for all regulatory inspections relating to safety.
  • Manage the plant-wide HACCP program and its functions.
  • Ensure shipment of Sample Quality Products to customers as requested.
  • Oversee quality system and checks in the Poly Press area, including print quality, product safety, and product control.
  • Control the print retain system for the press area.
  • Manage plant-wide material specifications and update as required.
Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Hire, train, develop, and supervise QA analysts/technicians to ensure uniform application of quality standards and documentation completion.
  • Manage 10 subordinate employees engaged in inspection of the product during all production phases, including the SQF Representative.
  • Overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of all quality control and related issues.
  • Assume responsibilities if the Quality Manager is absent.
Required Experience, Skills, & Abilities
  • Fifth‑year college or university program certificate; or two or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Standing for long periods; use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Good hand‑eye coordination; occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
