POSITION SUMMARY

The Customer Quality Engineer is accountable for and acts as the primary interface for one to two customers to ensure a high level of satisfaction with AE products from a quality and reliability perspective. The role requires an intimate understanding of the customer, active involvement in customer quality issues, and responsibility for successful relationships across all quality-related functions at various levels.

It interfaces across AE cross‑functional groups for the resolution of customer issues and has the authority to make recommendations on matters of significant impact related to customer and AE satisfaction.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop strategic relationships with the customer across functions in conjunction with AE’s account management team.
  • Coordinate strategies across AE functional groups (engineering, manufacturing, service) to meet customers’ requirements in all quality areas.
  • Define problems, investigate thoroughly, and drive corrective action from problem definition through resolution.
  • Develop action plans and ensure timely completion to achieve customer satisfaction.
  • Escalate issues internally as necessary, negotiate across functions, and communicate status to management.
  • Work through the RMA process with the customer.
  • Participate in weekly customer meetings and provide detailed customer quality information.
  • Communicate regularly with the customer to maintain confidence in AE’s monitoring of the situation.
  • Develop knowledge related to customer quality and replicate exact processes.
  • Prepare detailed data, deliver quality reviews to both the customer and AE management.
  • Prepare failure analysis investigation corrections and burn‑downs.
  • Participate in customer audits of AE processes and address any issues identified.
  • Prepare monthly Voice of Customer scorecards and lead internal review of AE’s response.
  • Identify emerging quality issues, risks to customer satisfaction, and determine investigative actions.
  • Maintain weekly and/or monthly detailed reports of customer issues and recommended plans.
  • Provide support to other quality functions as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Standard office environment with general office equipment.
  • Some domestic and international travel may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross‑functional teams to reach customer and AE resolutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build relationships with individuals in various roles and locations.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate in complex situations.
  • Ability to identify, define, and resolve problems independently.
  • Must display initiative and follow‑up skills to see issues through successful completion.
  • Critical thinking and strong analytical skills are required.
  • Ability to gather and interpret data using AE systems.
  • Ability to report detailed information to management.
EXPERIENCE
  • 5+ years of experience in a program management role with successful direct customer interactions.
  • Demonstrated success influencing and negotiating difficult and complex customer issues to resolution.
EDUCATION
  • BS degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with SPC, related software, 6‑Sigma training, and use of the 8‑D problem‑solving framework and tools.
COMPENSATION

The starting pay range for this role is $75,000 to $125,000 per year.
