Job Description ## Position Summary The Wildland Fire and Fuels Dynamics Lab is hiring a field and lab technician to work on several fire science research projects. The required work is flexible but will include approximately 50% lab work and 50% field work. Field work will consist of novel forest biometry and remote sensing techniques to quantify forest fuels across the Front Range and Western Slope of Colorado.

Site visits will generally be day trips with possible overnight to weeklong camping. Lab work will include processing field-collected tree cores, and LiDAR point clouds and will expose technicians to open-source LiDAR software. Job Duties:

* ** Field Data Collection** - Assist in the implementation of field-based protocols for assessing current forest and fuel conditions and trends using a combination of field and laboratory methods.
* ** Data Entry and Management Support** - Utilize basic data entry and QA/QC protocols to support field data collection. Perform basic lab duties at the end of each field week, including gear repair, sample processing, and data management.
* ** Remote sensing** – Assit in the analysis of remote sensing data sets using a combination of open source and commercial software.
* ** Lab sample processing –
** process field-collected tree growth cores, including sanding, mounting, scanning, and using CDendro programs to analyze sizes of tree growth rings.## Conditions of Employment Employees must maintain satisfactory performance of all job duties as determined by their supervisor(s), and must abide by all posted CSU community standards and values.  Visit  for further information.## Supervision Employees are supervised by Dr. Chad Hoffman and Dr.

Minimum Qualifications
* Demonstrated interest in learning about forest and fire ecology, forestry and restoration ecology.
* Ability to travel multiple days, camp in remote areas, and work long hours outdoors.
* Demonstrated ability to work safely and efficiently under minimal supervision.
* Ability to work cohesively as a member of a rotating team of 3-4 people while implementing practices for inclusion.
* Prior experience processing tree cores for measurements of tree growth, including proper care, mounting, preparation (sanding), and computer-based processing techniques.##

Preferred Qualifications Coursework and/or experience measuring trees and forest characteristics,  fuels sampling, planting seedlings, and working outdoors in a variety of conditions.# Salary Range $22/hr# Required Application Documents
