The Cannabis and Natural Medicines Health Monitoring (CNMHM) section monitors data trends and the medical literature on use and associated health effects, and investigates reports of adverse health events. CNMHM is part of the Cannabis and Natural Medicine Sciences Program that resides within the State Public Health Laboratory.
What You Will DoThe purpose of this position is to assist the CNMHM section with completing its statutory requirements pertaining to the collection and analysis of data relevant to cannabis and natural medicine use and health effects in Colorado.
Key ResponsibilitiesData collection and processing
- Collect data from multiple sources, including other state and federal agencies, that aid in accomplishing section surveillance goals and objectives.
- Write clear, specific requests for raw data as instructed by each program or agency.
- Explore data sources and maintain an understanding of detailed information about each, including useful variables, the tools used to collect the data and the limitations of how the data may be used and interpreted.
- Clean and format data to prepare datasets for analysis.
- Ensure the storage and use of all data collected complies with data sharing agreements and Federal, State and Department requirements.
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with agency contacts, programs and individuals who manage data sources used for surveillance by the section.
- Analyze data from multiple sources, existing and new, using statistical principles, methods and software.
- Evaluate the characteristics of the data to determine which statistical analyses may be applicable based on the content, type, quality and volume of the data.
- Conduct statistical analyses on data that are to be included in reports and dashboards produced by various agencies.
- Assist the senior analyst by performing code validation activities for any new data sources and dashboards.
- Conduct repeat, standardized statistical analyses, outlined in standard operating procedures, to update data on existing dashboards.
- Interpret and summarize the results of data analyses for descriptive purposes and determining significance.
- Produce preliminary tables and graphs of data analyses.
- Prepare a draft written summary of the data analysis results.
- Assist in the production of statistical reports including final tables and graphs, summaries of findings, background, methods, and comparisons of different data sources.
- Prepare and package finalized data to be included in various reports and dashboards.
- Coordinate the fulfillment of requests for data the section receives.
- Assist section staff with presentation of data and results in different formats, including verbal, written and visual.
- Research potential sources of data that would aid in advancing the surveillance goals of the section.
- Assist the senior analyst in coordinating an annual schedule of data analyses for the section.
- Coordinate internal and external data request schedule to ensure timely data collection and sharing.
- Assist the senior analyst with planning the section’s annual schedule for data cleaning, prepping and analyses.
- Coordinate the secure transfer of data between section and agency partners for required reports.
