Research And Development Chemical Tech

Purpose of the Position:

The primary role of this position is to support the development of chemical products and product applications for use with Hach's systems for analytical analysis. The R&D Chem Tech will investigate new technologies and conduct experimentation under the supervision of a technical team member or Chemistry Manager.

Essential Functions:

  • Follow all required safety procedures and laboratory protocols.
  • Execute laboratory tasks as directed by senior team members, focusing on protocol execution and data collection.
  • Perform chemical analysis methods and evaluate chemical product applications, leveraging academic knowledge to assess feasibility.
  • Conduct laboratory experiments and instrument evaluations, particularly for water quality analyzers and instrumentation.
  • Use initiative to carry out recurring assignments independently while escalating unfamiliar situations or deviations to supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory notebooks to document all work performed.
  • Collaborate with the research team to support ongoing projects.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data tracking and reporting.
  • Assist with general laboratory and stockroom maintenance to ensure departmental efficiency.
  • Adhere to company quality systems and departmental procedures to ensure compliance and technical accuracy.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Write technical documents, chemical analysis procedures, and calibration reports.
  • Generate formularies and quality control procedures for new test reagents.
  • Review technical journals and competitive literature to stay informed on market trends and technology advancements.
  • Present findings clearly and concisely to the team.

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related field.
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience; previous research experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of chemistry principles and analytical laboratory techniques, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and technical application skills, with the ability to adapt procedures and address minor deviations.
