Education & Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 60 semester or 90 quarter hours from an accredited college or university with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Transcripts are required for verification.

Minimum Qualifications: Must possess a valid driver’s license and a Colorado Peace Officer Certification. Additional required certifications: CPR/First Aid, Intoxilizer/Standard Field Sobriety, Maneuvers Certification, Nystagmus Interpretation, CCIC/NCIC Certification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Effect arrests, using handcuffs and other restraints when necessary, and transport persons in custody
  • Prepare investigative reports, sketches, and other documentation with proper grammar and notation
  • Exercise independent judgment regarding use of force, reasonable suspicion, and probable cause
  • Operate a law‑enforcement vehicle safely under all conditions, including emergency situations with speeds beyond posted limits
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers and other officers via radio and laptop
  • Gather information from victims, suspects, witnesses, and informants
  • Use weapons and firearms from various positions under high‑stress conditions, maintaining proficiency as required by certification standards
  • Conduct searches, including walking for extended periods, and detain suspicious vehicles and persons
  • Perform patrol functions, including rotating shifts, foot patrol, and building security checks
  • Inform and direct the public, mediate disputes, and advise on legal rights
  • Communicate in court and other formal settings, including public speaking engagements
  • Collect evidence and substances related to criminal offenses in potentially hazardous environments
  • Execute rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters, moving people to safety when necessary
  • Read and comprehend legal and non‑legal documents, including citations, affidavits, and warrants
  • Collaborate cooperatively with coworkers and community members
  • Maintain punctuality and a satisfactory attendance record
