As a Broadband Technician II
, you will perform intermediate to complex installations, disconnects and service changes for residential customers, including FTTH (Fiber to the Home RFoG and GPON). These services include video service, HSD services and home phone service. The role performs moderate troubleshooting from the tap to the customer’s electronic devices (TV, DVD, Modem etc.) and underground or aerial construction related to system plant, repair and maintenance supporting various customer‑focused activities.
This position will be responsible for installing, splicing, repairing and maintaining aerial, buried, and underground fiber optic and coax cable. Knowledge of common concepts, practices, and procedures within telecommunications is required.
Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, the individual selected for this position must reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from the Berthoud, Colorado warehouse at 266 Basher Dr Unit 4, Berthoud, CO 80513.
Shift schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 8am‑5pm with an on‑call rotation.
Responsibilities- Perform intermediate and complex installation of all necessary cable wiring (interior and exterior) and hardware from the tap/MST to the customer’s equipment for reception of cable and other company services offered to single, multi‑family customers or commercial dwellings over both fiber optic and coax delivery methods. Inspect and correct NESC safety violations for new construction and drops and coordinate underground drop burial work with contractors and in‑house crews, submit permits to government agencies, track status and update systems.
Ensure work meets construction and government standards and verify serviceability of new customers. - Perform connects (new and reconnects), disconnects, upgrades, downgrades, relocations, install additional outlets, fiber connections, and hard‑line cutovers; install or remove equipment (e.g. converters) at single or multiple‑unit dwellings.
- Use test equipment to identify and repair signal strength issues and ensure optimum reception (optical and RF). Use locators, TDRs, FDRs, OTDRs while reading system maps. Interpret system maps, calculate signal loss, read plant blueprints and update them when necessary (excluding main trunk lines). Perform pole, ladder, tower or alternative structure climbing and may use a bucket truck.
- Complete all work in compliance with quality control guidelines and applicable regulations such as OSHA, FCC, NEC and NESC.
- Monitor and record system, drop, and in‑house leakage; properly record all required information on work orders, surveys, referrals, etc.
- Promote cable, internet, and other company services; educate customers on proper use of the service, including adding services, channel lineup, and equipment usage.
Required Qualifications
- 1+ year of basic technical telecommunications experience – or current/prior military service with honorable discharge.
- At least 6 months of experience in basic fiber optic and/or copper cable splicing, repair or switch training.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Follow TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs.
Other Qualifications
- Successful completion of customer‑specific requirements, including a background check administered by the customer.
- Availability for on‑call/standby responsibilities; occasional travel and willingness to work overtime.
- Pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum upon hire.
- Maintain DOT requirements for vehicles with a combined GVRW of >10,000 lbs.
- Reliable, responsible, strong work ethic and dedicated to team.
- Practical knowledge of computer applications or burial construction.
- Familiarity with company products and services.
