Job Summary

The Apprentice Electrician will complete a 4‑year electrical apprenticeship program, accumulating 288 hours of electrical instruction and 8,000 on‑the‑job training hours. The apprenticeship provides comprehensive knowledge of electrical construction from underground work to final punch list items. Apprentices work under the supervision of a Journeyman electrician, learning the full scope of the trade and preparing to earn a Journeyman Wireman license.

• High School Diploma, GED, or minimum one (1) year of construction experience, or completion of a prior electrical internship or pre‑apprenticeship program.

• Adheres to all safety protocols set by the general contractor, owners, and Duro Electric; participates in safety meetings and stand‑downs.
• Gains knowledge and speed in all electrical trade aspects throughout the apprenticeship.
• Follows verbal and written directions from site leaders and Duro office staff.
• Willing and able to travel to sites within the assigned territory.
• Meets Duro's minimum tool requirements at hire and continues to build a tool kit during apprenticeship.
• Attends Duro's partner electrical apprentice school.
• Possesses basic math and reading comprehension skills.
• Demonstrates strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Maintains a strong attendance record and arrives on time daily.
• Follows all company procedures, including the employee handbook and operations manual.
• Possesses intermediate verbal and written communication skills and is willing to ask questions to better understand work objectives.

• Follows all safety rules and regulations on job sites and while operating company vehicles.
• Uses plans for new or modified installations to minimize material waste.
• Ensures reliable wiring and workmanship consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
• Reviews sketches, diagrams, or blueprints to install concealed wiring before walls, ceilings, and flooring are finished.
• Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit using appropriate tools.
• Uses testing instruments (ohmmeter, voltmeter, megger, oscilloscope) to test continuity of circuits for safety and compatibility.
• Installs control and distribution apparatus (switches, relays, circuit‑breaker panels) and fastens them with screws or bolts using hand or power tools.
• Pulls wiring through conduit and other pre‑manufactured cables such as Romex, MC Cable, and low‑voltage wiring.
• Splices wires by stripping insulation, using knife or pliers, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
• Observes functionality of installed equipment to detect hazards and needed adjustments, relocations, or replacements.
• Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools.
• Connects power cables to equipment such as electric ranges or motors and installs grounding leads.
• Attends and passes electrical trade school until a minimum of 288 electrical education hours are met.
• Maintains a clean working environment by cleaning as you go.
• Performs physical labor, including hand digging, heavy lifting, and carrying construction materials.
• Assists in the repair of faulty equipment and systems as needed.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

• High‑school courses in mathematics, electricity, electronics, mechanical drawing, science, and shop provide a beneficial background; completion of a technical school is an advantage.
• OSHA‑10 certification.
• Forklift and scissor‑lift certifications.
• Completion of an electrical pre‑apprenticeship program.

• Must pass an examination testing knowledge of electrical theory, the National Electrical Code, and local electric and building codes to obtain a Journeyman license once all requirements are met.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

• Pay range: $19.30 – $25.00 per hour.
