Road & Rail Services is urgently hiring experienced Railroad Carmen to join our rail maintenance operation.

This is a skilled-trade position responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing freight railcars. You'll perform hands-on mechanical work using welding equipment, cutting tools, grinders, hand tools, power tools, and other equipment necessary to safely return railcars to service.

This is not an entry-level position. Candidates must have previous hands-on experience in a relevant mechanical trade. Railcar or railroad experience is highly preferred; however, we will consider qualified candidates with strong experience in welding, metal fabrication, industrial maintenance, heavy equipment repair, diesel mechanics, trailer repair, manufacturing maintenance, or a closely related mechanical field.

We're looking for experienced tradespeople who can work safely, troubleshoot mechanical problems, and complete quality repairs in an outdoor railroad environment.

As a Railroad Carman, you will:

Inspect freight railcars for structural damage, wear, fatigue, and mechanical defects

Identify repairs that fall within the facility's authorized scope of work

Complete railcar repairs according to applicable customer, company, and AAR requirements

Perform welding, cutting, grinding, fitting, and metal fabrication

Repair or replace damaged railcar components

Troubleshoot mechanical problems and determine appropriate repair methods

Safely operate hand tools, power tools, pipe wrenches, pry bars, ratchets, and other industrial equipment

Operate welding machines, cutting equipment, and grinders

Use tractors, ATVs, and other authorized site equipment when required

Inspect completed repairs for safety, quality, and workmanship

Maintain accountability for assigned tools and equipment

Keep work areas organized and free of hazards

Follow all railroad, customer, company, and industry safety requirements

Relevant mechanical or railcar repair experience is required.

Qualified applicants should have:

Professional experience in railcar repair, welding, fabrication, mechanical repair, industrial maintenance, heavy equipment repair, diesel repair, or a comparable skilled trade

Hands-on experience using industrial hand and power tools

Welding and/or metal fabrication experience

Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Ability to identify mechanical defects and complete repairs safely

Ability to follow detailed repair procedures and safety requirements

Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Commitment to safe, high-quality workmanship

Previous Carman, freight railcar repair, or railroad mechanical experience is strongly preferred.

This is a physically demanding outdoor railroad position
. Employees must be prepared to work in changing weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, dust, and noisy industrial environments.

The position requires frequent walking, bending, reaching, twisting, squatting, climbing, and working in various positions while completing repairs.

Employees may be required to open railcar end doors requiring approximately 90 pounds of pulling force and 68 pounds of pushing force
. You must also be able to climb various types of ladders and safely perform work at heights greater than 16 feet
.

Pay: $23.00–$25.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
