Job SummaryThe Activities Assistant’s primary objective is to enhance the quality of life for patients/residents by providing appropriate, meaningful activities and interventions on both a one‐on‐one and group basis.
Responsibilities include:
- Administering the monthly activity calendar and coordinating all state‑required activities such as music, crafts, and spiritual services.
- Regularly soliciting patient/resident input into activity planning and ensuring activities are organized, upbeat, and dignified.
- Participating in activities to support optimal functioning while maintaining residents’ dignity and identity.
- Assisting with simple nursing procedures and transporting patients/residents to and from rooms.
- Assisting with Minimum Data Set (MDS) and EPIC documentation.
- Demonstrating creativity, resourcefulness, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions under close supervision.
- Exhibiting leadership abilities to develop and motivate staff, working effectively with patients/residents who have behavioral issues.
- Maintaining strong critical thinking, problem‑solving, and prioritization skills while working autonomously.
- Planning and overseeing resource utilization and the design of work processes.
- High school graduate or equivalent (preferred).
- Experience in social services, creative activities, or geriatrics (preferred).
- Knowledge of working with a diverse range of resident demographics.
- Preferred current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification or enrolment in a healthcare‑related program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required; CPR training mandatory within six months (location dependent).
- All required department‑specific competencies and certifications obtained and maintained.
- Depending on location, the role may require a Sanford Category I or II Driver classification, a motor vehicle report, valid driver’s license, and medical qualifications to perform driving functions.
